  1. Yes, thought this may amuse you! My first requirement is to get rid of the mould which is unsightly and can be unhealthy. I am sure you have read the news where a child died in a property and the mould was a contributor to his death. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-64273057.amp Like I said there isn't any instructions. If anyone wants to try pure soap flakes as discussed. I would increase the boiled hot water to flakes. Hope this is helpful to everyone
  2. We have a shoreline fridge freezer. We believe it is coming to the end of its life. Bottom of the fridge the temp goes down to 6 degrees and the freezer box freezes the product within. At the top of the door the temp is around 14 degrees which isn't good. We are now looking for a new 12v fridge freezer and a Shoreline replacement is £589 product code SKU: SL-RR298 . Is anyone aware of a similar 12 v under the counter fridge freezer which doesn't cost so much? Cheers
  3. Update At the end of last year cruising season I took the cratch off to clean. (September 2022) I used Oxford mint canopy cleaner internally and externally. Once return to the frame and dry I used a 2 smoke bomb to clean any mould bacteria. Finally I used Fabsil Gold to water proof the cratch. The boat was then winterized. In June (2023) our summer cruise began. The cratch still looked good. Within 4 weeks of use, mid July, a white mould growth appeared on the internal roof of the cratch. Where possible we ventilate the cratch. I tried white vinegar which didn't appear to help. I have looked at all the posts and recommendations on this forum. I have purchased clove oil but not yet used. Recently I contacted a company that makes cratches for vans, boats, etc. They were very helpful and recommended Pure Soap Flakes. There isn't any instructions. I used 1 small glass of flakes to 4 glasses of boiled water. I applied it by paint brush. The soap was too thick and left the covering white. I put in another 4 more glasses of boiled hot water and applied by brush. It's has left white stains of soap on the material. After 7 days I don't have any white mould. I will keep you posted.
  4. On the page that the link takes you to below plan your visit it shows open every day.
  5. Chatting to a someone who recently visited The Watersedge Cafe at Standedge Tunnel. Whilst there he had learnt that the cafe is closed on a Monday and Tuesday. Potential customers were turning up on these days to use the cafe having looked at CRT visitor centre website, see link below, which states it's open seven days a week. I understand the cafe owner has repeatedly requested CRT amend their website which they have failed to do. I wonder if they will update their website, once the centre is closed, to say the centre is now longer open. https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/places-to-visit/standedge-tunnel-and-visitor-centre
  6. All Thanks for your replies I normally empty the water tank using the pump via the tap into the sink. The pump instructions state don't run longer than 15 minutes. Wish me luck 🤞
  7. Hi At the end of this cruising season I am looking at emptying my water tank. Normally I use the water pump. This year I am carrying out maintenance on the inside of the tank. To save the water pump I thought I would try a jiggle Syphon and hose. I have just tried to empty a building (14lts ) bucket of water as a test. Sadly there was very little movement/transfer of water. Does anyone use a jiggle Syphon and is there a technique to using them? Thanks in advance
  8. I give up Can the administration please close this thread / post I will not be making any further contribution to this post. I have tried to make people aware of what took place. I for one will be aware of Stone the next time we pass through. Good luck to everyone who has read this post and contributed. Tomorrow I will try and delete the post if possible.
  9. They called a family member who is in the police force. Not in Stone or surrounding area. Having discussed it with them the couple decided not to involve the Police.
  10. I am a member of the local neighborhood crime watch group on Facebook. Example only not true Someone posts I was robbed last night. I live in a small cul-de-sac. When I got up someone had got into my house through a window. They stole the keys to my car and drove off in it. Next morning they post it on their local crime watch group on Facebook. A person who lives in that cul-de-sac who everyone knows and believes what they say is on the group. He says ' I didn't see or hear anything ( even though he was in bed ) I think the person who was robbed is not telling the truth. Now who do people believe? The person who was robbed in the middle of the night or the local character who everyone believes 🤔 Back to the coward dumping shit on the old couple. I believe he targeted them because they wouldn't be able to get off their boat quick enough to tackle him. Personally I believe them. I am glad they told me and going forwards I will be aware going through Stone. I hope this post makes other people aware going through Stone and it doesn't happen to them. Hopefully this coward, mentally ill or not, will be caught.
  11. Where we moor our narrowboat there are around 25 narrowboats. Two are live boards the rest like us just storage. I speak to the owners of two live aboards and one storage. When we are at the mooring it's very quiet and not every boat is occupied at the time. If you spoke with someone who wasn't there on the day and doesn't speak to the other boaters would they be aware of what took place?
  12. I was sat on the back of our narrowboat on Tixall Wide. A narrowboat moored in front of us. They had travelled from Stone through Great Heywood and we're heading back to their home mooring. They got off their narrowboat walked to our narrowboat to tell us to be careful if we were going through Stone. We asked why? They then proceeded to tell us what had happened to them. The couple were passed retirement age therefore not a childish prank. She was traumatized and felt she should warn people who were on a boat heading for Stone. I cannot give you anymore information. They are not internet savvy this is why I posted the information. I am aware of the location of their mooring and I have passed on the link to this post to them. Can I ask: have you spoken to the people who are full time moorers facing the old brewery? The couple said the full time moorers were very helpful. Helped them clean the shit of their boat. Insisted they stayed the night on a mooring that was vacant. One of the full time moorers walked up the towpath towards where it happened to see if he could see the person who dropped the shit on them. They were informed by the full time moorers that the person who moored at their location. Who fitted the discription was moored near where the shit was dropped. Hope this helps your enquiry
  13. I wonder if every Policeman thnks like that when some is stabbed by a terrorist, someone with mental health issues or some random stranger. Hopefully by putting up this post it will raise it locally. Boaters will be aware to watch out around Stone. Hopefully he is known and something can be done to stop him doing it again.
  14. I guess if this had happened to you and on telling someone they gave your reply: Sounds like you were specifically targeted? If you were targeted then something’s gone on. : can I ask what your reply would be?
  15. Today I have learnt of a terrible event that took place on Sunday 18th or Monday 19th June 2023. A couple were going through lock 31 prior to bridge 96 on the Trent and Mersey on their narrowboat. A male of around 50 years old of average build with blond curly hair was on the towpath. He was doing a dance with his hands above his shoulders saying to them 'I am going to piss on you' He had a bicycle and went further down the towpath. They saw his bike at bridge 96 and then he appeared above them on the bridge. Again doing the dance as they approached. He then dropped bottles of piss and then the elsan cassette full of shit on them. Being the coward that he is he then took off on his bike before they could get to him. They carried on to the water point at bridge 95. Nearby permanent moorers came to their aid to help them clean their boat. The permanent moorers, which is facing the former Joules Brewery, think this coward could be one of the moorers who moors at their site. Has anyone heard of this happening before in Stone? Does anyone think they know who he is? A male of around 50 years old on a narrowboat. He has a bicycle. He has fair hair which is curly and scruffy. He was doing a sort of monkey dance!! He needs to be stopped because he WILL do this again. The couple who have been boating for ten years are now going back to their mooring. Then going home with a view of selling their boat which is sad. Any help will be helpful.
  16. We carry 5 lts bottles of water for drinking and food. At the end of summer I will open the hatch which is in the middle of the deck in front of the front doors. Thanks for the information and replies
  17. Hi I purchased mine from Tool Paint which was cheaper. It seems more watery than my previous supplier. I have used it and it looks to have done the job. Rusted area has turned black. It has arrived in a plastic paint tin. Tools-paint.com Tel: 01753 684084 / 686888 At my home mooring the neighbouring boat uses Owatrol oil. She rubs it into the rust. Hope this is helpful
  18. Hi I have a narrowboat built by Coalcraft. The watertank is steel not stainless steel. I empty the tank every September, October when I winterise the boat. In April when I wake the boat up the initial water from the tank shows signs of rust. The watertank is under the deck and gas locker at the front of the boat Has anyone else experience this? Has anyone got into the watertank to de-rust it and paint it? Thanks
  19. I use this to control rust on our narrowboat. Once applied you can leave it until you decide to paint. Just leaves the rusted area black. I used to buy it from SP Paints in Stockport, Manchester. Sadly they closed during covid lockdown. This new supplier is quite a lot dearer. 1st time I used it i applied it to the handrails. Before it dried it rained. I ended up with black streaks down the side of the boat. Over time they faded. FERROZINC is a high performance water thinnable rust converter. https://www.hmgpaint.com/products/rail/primer/41/ferrozinc
  20. My wife always says if you're going to open a shoe shop open it in a street with other shoe shops. Holly will have a trading license which allows her to trade on the canal. They will also have a food license to enable them to trade. In any village, town, street how often do you see more than one cafe? I believe Holly The Cafe Boat will brings in their own customers by people who are following them on line. These people are potentially new customers for local cafes once they move on. Grandpa already has a local competitors, plus the local garden centre. Plus Uppermill which is a village of cafes. Thinking a business shouldn't trade on a canal because it effects local businesses. It would stop every canal festival which is made up of trading boats. Let's hope the canal breaths life back into it. Enjoy
  21. Tha man on the crutches is Alister who damaged our boat. Never again would I allow CRT to take charge of our boat.
  22. Agree HNC can be a challenge I don't think it's for single manning. My wife and I travel from Marple to Huddersfield in May 2021. My Brother helped us from Uppermil to Marston. Got stuck a few times on the flight out of Uppermill due to low water levels. I had to go up the flight to drop water down We had to hand the narrowboat over to CRT to take it through Standedge Tunnel due to COVID rules. The volunteer, Alister, did a lot of damage to the paint work. Also the low tunnel I think in Slaithwaite. We had to remove our TV Ariel 😞
