  1. Sadly, you're right, but they do melt it for demonstration purposes in large quantities. I do remember a time when the whole area reeked of chocolate, especially at night.
  2. Perfectly safe moorings, they are noisy from the trains, though and the smell of chocolate is cloying if the wind is westerly. There's a general shop that sells useful things on Maryvale Road (down to the bridge, turn right). I've had some issues mooring in the Vale and there was a large canvas camp hidden in the bushes with lots of people gathered there last time I went through. Dunno if it's still there.
  3. There's no space for fridge on Mabel, so we have a lift-up plate in the floor and store food and beer on the baseplate. Seemed to work until the water pump failed, then the OH complained. My beer was fine through and I saw no need to buy one. Plenty of emergency meals come in a tin!
  4. I sailed off the Isle of Wight 20 years ago in a Wayfarer which is quick, light and responsive. I wouldn't even consider it in a narrowboat. Don't go to sea unless you know hat you're doing.
  5. It's sugar that has started to crystallise. If it's left, it will allow mould to grow underneath because it's difficult for moisture to evaporate slowly.
