  1. It is a mitsubishi L3E with a bowman heat exchanger fitted on top of it so maybe they had this before the bowman was fitted
  2. so if i've got this right the exhaust goes into the side that curls up and round sort of like a piglets tail, water comes in from the canal through the small top pipe and water and exhaust fumes go out into the canal below the water line so your engine is nice and quiet. so it doesn't actually cool the engine at all
  3. wouldn't that feed water back into the cylinders? why would you want a wet exhaust - sorry I know I sound a bit stupid here
  4. seeing as I have absolutely no idea what a 3d isometric shot is - probably not :-)
  5. Hi, we bought a boat engine and this came with it - it says wortham blake on the side, our first thought was it might be a water trap for any water feeding back up the exhaust but in that case surely fumes would come out of the small breather pipe on the side/top, second thought was that it was a heat exchanger but there is already one on the engine. any suggestions?
  6. fair enough, but I live in the sticks so like the free delivery option
  7. toolstation is usually cheaper and you only have to spend 10 quid for free next day delivery, think its 40 for screwfix

    Floods

Some of the posts I was reading on facebook pages were talking about hammering scaffolding poles into the canal bed to stop the boats drifting over the towpath, does this not damage the canal bed?
  9. Well I suppose we all occasionally say/post things that are somewhat cringe worthy when looked back on but the phrase "emotional range of a teaspoon" did spring to mind

    fave canal places

  11. I'd agree - an issue with too much slack on one side of the steering cable and probably ballast distribution - other half had ballasted ours perfectly when he was on our boat, but developed a slight list when i got on!
  12. I have a theory that if you're afraid you're going to fall in then you're more likely to but have never put it to the test! I've never fallen in but did go swimming in the Llangollen canal as a young girl before anyone bothered warning about the dangers of leptospirosis etc
  13. i didn't see how they could work they didn't look very propeller like if you know what i mean
  14. reading previous comments is a 4 blade propeller more efficient than a 3 blade propeller then? also has anyone got one of the axiom propellers are they any better?
  15. can you get one of these if you've already got a boat with no paperwork to prove its yours in the first place though?
  16. much as I hate bureaucracy (apart from anything its so bloomin hard to spell), I'm thinking that its about time there was something similar to a v5 car logbook for canal boats, as I've looked at a couple on gumtree and enquired about them only to get a very dodgy email back saying sorry I can't actually view the boat as they are the other side of the country from where it's moored but if I want to pay by their paypal invoice they guarantee I'll be happy with the boat (yeah right!) okay it may not completely get rid of scams like that but probably would make it easier to find out who holds actual title to a boat.
  17. got to say it was handy when we had a grp cruiser with petrol outboard for finding petrol stations.
  18. Problem solved anyway, didn't buy said boat we were thinking of as wasn't enough headroom for the oh, and he hasn't irritated me so much I'm ready to chop his head off so he'll fit in a boat (well not this week anyway )
  19. love it! okay may have got a bit off topic here anyway, has anyone actually bought one of this company's boats?
  20. I was thinking there might be a slipway like the one at Stoke Bruerne locks which slopes down really gradually into the pound between the locks, I'm sure you could probably launch a 23 foot springer there
  21. well theres a bit of difference in the cost of transporting a tumble dryer and a 30ft narrowboat!
  22. We went to look at a springer but there wasn't enough headroom for the other half
  23. Well i was thinking do they slap the cost of transporting it to the waterway on top of the build cost?
  24. I've just seen the ad and looked at where they're based, it seems slightly concerning that they must be a good 3 or 4 miles from the nearest waterway, did you buy a boat off them?
