  1. Tracking Units are used in a court of law all the time, they are also used as police as evidence. Insurance company's pay out million's every single day on the account of vehicle theft from the data provided by such devices and CRT are small fry potatoes compared to them who play with the big Ace's. Tracker Units decrease insurance by as much as a third because 1 they work 2 they are court worthy.
  2. You can buy a Vehicle Tracking unit from Amazon.uk for around £50, it comes with a sim card fitted inside a small black box, the unit only needs a 12 v supply and it also comes with an external stick on arial that can be placed somewhere discreet on the boat, you can call this little black box up via any mobile phone and you get the boats longitude and latitude sent to the mobile phone which can be entered into google earth giving the location of the boat on a map visually. The GPS data is also stored onto an SD Card stating the boats location day by day, you can then download and send the location of the boat to the CRT and it will assure them we are playing by their 'rules'. Its newish to me technology and i have yet to put it in place but many people use this method on boats. i hope i have explained it well i have had a bottle of red
  3. Answer : £50 Vehicle Tracking Device fitted to a our boats alongside a Tesco's pay as you go £27 Mobile phone. Its time to play them at their own games and get in front of the very misleading rules and regulation's the Crt call a Website for new Boaters No blabble/or faffing about. I am discraced how complecated the rules and regulations are explained to new boaters wishing to purchase a boat. Its designed to make the most honest boater trip up.
  4. This sounds rediculous, surely the Crt must understand that any boat owner may choose to have their boat offline or out of the water for work needed. (this maybe inland in a workshop or the boat may be in safe storage while the owner was working overseas) I would be questioning the legality of their questioning ? edit, if the boat was sighted for overstopping they are on your case, so not being sighted at all then they are on your case also = harrasement in every sense of the word unless they actually bring in a sworn for boats as they do with motor vehicles.
  5. Thanks for that link Emerald Fox, i am new to boating but i would of never of known how heath robinson repacking a stern glad was. great link and much appreciated.

  8. Wow, looking at the above pictures its looks like the rear of the boat is open to the elements and most of the windows are broken. I hope the Hull is given a new lease of life again in another form maybe, It's a shame it did not go as planned for them, i quite liked them both to be honest. As for Grand Design's the program i go with the view it is generally the based on large budget's and not the normal Joe bloggs with a normal 70k to build his or hers dream house which is a shame and Escape to the Country just sicken's me.
  9. Hey bassplayer thanks for the advice with trying a boat out first i think it would of been a good idea before i got so mind set and determined to get a narrowboat, i dont think anything could put me off at this stage, i am going for something around 57-60ft long so hopefully that should be plenty enough space. I wish you all the very best with your GF and and living on and off your boat, congratualtion's on getting married. next year. I am car free myself so that is a bonus in every sense at the moment, its just too expensive these days and i can understand what you say with them becoming a burden while Cc'ing, i have a push bike haha. I think its good to have roots and freinds in other places especially if you enjoy them, i guess it is all about juggling our lives a little to get the most out of it. You know i am glad to hear that your boat has helped your depression that truly is brilliant to hear, it is partly why i am changing my lifestyle and i think its time to give things a new begining with a fresh new look at life from a different angle so to speak. Thank you for your post bassplayer. happy days all the very best.
  10. They seemed like a nice couple, I can't fault them for giving it a go. I just struggle to comprehend the boat design.
  11. All the best MEpitt and robert anthony with your Boats.
  12. Thanks Taslim, thats a great idea and I have found some warm light solar lights on Amazon haha. Aww hey, no noisy neighbours or junk post now that sounds bliss bettie boo. Ps. The Betty Boo tune was brilliant that brings back memorys
  13. Thank you Alan I am still looking forward to it mud and snow as well, for the first year i will have the backup use of a Marina but i do plan to cruise during the winter if their are no stoppages and the cut is not frozen. I like the sound of collecting wood as well thats if other boaters have not beaten me to it. I am so looking forward to it, i guess it may be a little scary for a while without any form of street light glow out of my bedroom window. haha - i write that wih a big smile.
  14. I would use the term 'Intimidation', i dont care who took the Jam out of those guys Donuts. For that reason those guys lost any point of view.
  15. Thanks Wanted Ive been reading this forum for sometime now, and i find it interesting reading the pitfalls and mistakes as much as i like looking at Members Photo's of their Boats. I fully expect to fall in the canal and swear at my stove when it wont light, it does sound like all part of the fun, though i guess it may not while its happening. What would be nice is to be in middle of no where away from the towns, Thanks again i do appologize for not replying to everyone who has posted their real life story's, much appreciated and very interesting.
  16. Do Limo Cut n Shut Welders do foreigner's at weekend - they could add another 10 feet maybe. :>
  17. Thanks for your replys, I found it really interesting to read. I will be moving onto a Narrowboat early next year and I am very much looking forward to it, I am pretty sure the move will be the right choice and it is a huge investment into a new beginning. One part that appeals to me is living independandtly and doing daily activities just for the basic day to day needs. I expect on a cold morning I may be swearing but I swear a lot anyway. I hope the thread continues.
  18. Another forum member asked a question how different are Canals, this got me thinking how different is life on the Canal's online or offline from living in bricks and mortar to living full time on a Boat? It would be interesting to hear everyone's views and story's of the good and bad and whether they have any regrets from that transition. Pro's and Con's would be interesting though I bet their are many.
