  1. ooops LOL i couldnt think what it was called i just know id read about some hooks for metal if you cant use pins so i google a pic and it was wiggly old goat.. is fenders on the roof for tunnels? im not sure we will be going thru any for quite a while. im only planning on lurking about from rotherham to donny upto keadby and the new junction cos Shanes still got to get back to sheffield for work. when he retires we are planning on adventures tho
  2. Im right excited now its finally looking like a step further after months n months of it just been an idea. I think we will deffo be going with johnathan wilson. Hes been highly recomended plus i havent read anything bad when iv googled. Iv made lists n lists of stuff to be getting iv put extra pins and rope for the springs to and them hooks for wiggly metal sheeting ?
  3. Oooo lovely ? The episode about the boat folks sounds right interesting
  4. Well we have just nipped down to johnathan wilsons but he wasnt in so we had a chat with his son. He showed us round and the boats that were in the warehouses getting made. He gave us johnathans number so we can call and make arrangements to go down and discuss what we are looking for. Ohhhh my gosh iv got right butterflys its all seeming very real now (altho not for quite a few months yet) but oooooooo oooooooo im right giddy ?
  5. Arrrrr il have to put my laptop on to look then. It isnt showing up on my fone :/ I googled them yesterday it took me ages to sus out a josher style one but then it seemed obvious at the difference they do look fancy. I liked the idea of the Birmingham square but then saw the extra price n decided with the amount its going to cos as it is il do without lol that could be my stove n heating. Thats another reason i cant go with a builder that says itl be done in 4-6 week cos we havent got no where near enough pennies to buy it and fit it out just yet. ? Oooo lovely il have to read your blog to patty-ann is your link on here to? Im going to make a facebook page to document mine from birth of a nut n bolt or sheet of metal or whatever they start out as to going in the water then all my adventures every day ?
  6. ooooo int it funny that ... shane dunt admit his bodge jobs either. In his eyes theyre perfect but in mine and everyone elses the wonky cuboards n big gaps and just about everything stick out like a sore thumb ?
  7. Thats the bit im looking forward to aswell now, being able to go and watch her grow. Thats why im fancying having her built in sheffield cos im literally 5 mins up the road so can go whenever we have a spare 10 mins ?The inside will be right rickety lol shanes not to sparkly with wood hes a welder and car person but i want it ramshackle and oldy worldy so i dont think his cock ups will stand out half as much as his disastrous DIY efforts do in my house LOL
  8. Il stick that 1 on my list to then thankyou Oooo good advice thankyou. Yep cos i dare say my idea of how lifes going to be and what il need will nodoubt change drastically in reality after a few months onboard ?
  9. I have no idea what a josher style or Birmingham square is il have to google them. I want a cruiser stern one.It doesnt matter about fit out cos we are planning on doing it ourselves. Iv had a static caravan in the past and want it nothing like that inside im not keen on the modern look. But we would need things like the electrics and plumbing sorting for us.
  10. yes i think thats the name, it was peterboat that recomended him and seen as i only live 5 mins away from the sheffield marina i can go and take a packed lunch and sit n spy on her getting built so im very much liking this idea !
  11. thankyou for that iv drawn a diagram ( i use the term drawn very loosely LOL) of they layout i want. and shown where i want portholes.. in the bedroom and bathroom and big windows in the kitchen and room. i wont be having many electric appliances cos i wont be taking my microwave/steamer/slow cooker/big electric mixer and i very rarely use a hairdryer or my straighners or the iron so they wont be coming. iv seen a little twin tub on amazon that quite a few narrowboat folks recomend so i think itl just be the telly ( at night when he comes home cos i dont watch it at all in the day) and fone/tablet charging i wont be taking my laptop or printer. a delivery date isnt critical cos we arnt selling our house my daughter will be staying at home and her boyfriend moving in with her. but before we move on id at least want a stove and back boiler with radiators and a source of hot water.
  12. il stick them on my list then iv read some terrible things about boat bulders going bust and the poor folks losing their money. id be devestated if that happened. the bloke at sheffield has come highly recomended so will more than likely go with him but still need to talk to a few different ones as its something we know nothing about at all. i know nothing about boats full stop but at least id read lots for months about buying second hand.
  13. thankyou for that . where abouts are they based?
  14. i cant wait to get my boat shes going to be called Mushroom & Pye after my birdys. i originally was going to call her Bliss cos that was my Nan n Grandads surname but it seemed to common after looking at the boat name list. when we was looking at getting a second hand boat i was going to have a party to honour the boats old name and send a little paper boat with the name wrote on floating away down the canal to start new adventures on its own I dont walk under ladders but its only cos im scared of something getting dropped on my head LOL iv got 6 cats 5 black and 1 blue and i love magpies i feed the ones that visit me everyday
  15. sooooo we have totally changed our mind from a second hand one to going for a sailaway. this was never an option for me to start with cos i just wanted to buy one and flit onboard and do her up while we was living on her. BUT .... due to the various life stuffs that popped up recently making us have to postpone it anyway we thort a sailaway would be the perfect idea. we are going to go and see the fella at sheffield in the next few weeks but want to go and chat to as many builders as possible as we have absolutly no idea about time scale design etc... we are thinking we want it to be done as far as electrics plumbing and important stuff but we will be fitting the inside ( i still want it all tongue n groove and oldy worldy ) and Shane will be doing the painting on the outside. so can any of you recomend places to go and places to deffo NOT go THANKYOU XX
  16. Your bang on .. i tried some quorn chicken things a few years ago EEEEWWWWW nasty even the dogs n cats turned their noses up ?
  17. Keeping my eye on this thread cos im im just making my lists. Wev decided to look at sailaways after all instead of second hand. I thought id got it all covered but id missed hose pipe windlass and piling hooks !!! But ..... are quorn sausages really really important ??? Cos i think they are rammy n just dont fancy them wont Lincolnshire or Cumberland or even just hot dogs do ????
  18. When i first started reading everything i was gobsmacked how many boats come a cropper in locks so decided noo way i fancy driving id sooner do the locks.. then i started seeing lots of accidents operating the locks EEEEKKKK !! it really does scare me to bits the thort of contending with them but the thort of never doing it and staying in my house forever scares me more
  19. well Peter youl never guess ..................................... we are gunna look into a brand new sailaway boaty will be getting xmas out of way first more than likely then get one sorted. I'm now even more excited than I was to start with and that's saying something LOL but seen as wev had to postpone it a little while anyway due to life stuffs I might as well contain meself abit longer eh. shane ses you made a lot of sense n spesh bout not buyin other peoples troubles .... lol we can manage to create enuff of our own. iv been googling places but is your offer still up to take us for a chat with the blokie at sheff? (is it Johnathan Wilson?) oooooo ooooooooo giddy giddy ....... not sure ill still be saying that 5 years down the line while we are still *camping onboard HAHA x
  20. Ooooo i am.lol im very excited. Mind you iv spent the last week with the total mug on cos life stuffs got in the way and wev had to postpone it for a few month **sob sob sniffle snot sob** Them cream leather seats are lovely id be no good with them tho cos theyd be covered in oil off shane lol iv already threatend him hes got to get undressed out of work gear on the stern haha. Have you come any closer to finding your dream boat yet? ?

  22. Maybe just maybe your right ? But i think otherise and wont be able to conquer my fears till iv got my boat. Its all scarey new stuff to me the only locks iv had anything to do with was the electric ones from rotherham to doncaster.
  23. Oh no that must have been so scarey for the poor lady i hope she has fully recovered. Im scared stiff of locks and not been the most sure footed person going the thort of slipping and ending up in one petrifies me .... but this is something i never even knew was possible ?
  24. Ooooooo oooooooo ooooooooo as much as i know this is the most bestist idea i want to be in before im 60 lol Shane isnt the worlds most enthusiastic DIYer plus with him working almost 24/7 i think itl take forever. As long as the hull and engine do their jobs and the gas and leccy doesnt either blow us up or frazzle us im happy. I want it all olde worlde wood and ramshackle looking inside and i know Shane can pull that off *haha* but id sooner be living in a bombsite while it was done than stuck at home and having to keep going to have a look at my babbie no where near ready for months n months ...... Hows you and Jayne hope your both fine and dandy ? Xx
