  1. What Arthur is saying is that 'end of garden' mooring fees did not exist then. Nor had the new marina percentage fees been introduced. However, mooring sites leased from BW certainly paid them rent money.
  2. In response to your final point, not necessarily. The aspect that is being missed here is that CRT gain some extra income from the majority of home moorers, many of whom are also keeping their boats out of the way off the cruising waterways when out of use. Additionally, CRT report some or all of this income as being part of their investment portfolio and do not identify it as coming from boaters. They also seem to overlook the potential effect on this investment income from closed or inactive canals. All those waterside businesses ceasing to pay rent could make a big difference.
  3. As it is coming up, Crick sounds like a good suggestion to me. A lot of the boat exhibits will not be for sale but there will be plenty of opportunity to talk about boats and layouts, meet builders and boaters. Spending another day or two in the area will allow for visits to a number of nearby second hand boat brokerages.
  4. They certainly added to the mayhem at Cavalcade.
  5. Thanks cheesegas, this is an significant improvement since we last went that way.
  6. The ones based in the Paddington Arm have a small light on top of a tall stick like mast. It's still very difficult to see them in a tunnel if they get too close to you because they are so low on the water.
  7. In my experience, they do if so requested.
  8. CRT are able to check with at least some mooring providers the boats on their site. This happened at my boat club and we discovered a member who was in process of changing her boat on the mooring had licensed both against the one berth. There were also a couple of boats that had moved on still showing the club as their mooring place.
  9. The new boat will, for the time being, be an additional mooring at the same place.
  10. Yes and don't forget all those CCers who go on holiday to foreign parts. We have always enjoyed our boat holidays more than any other type of break, even since retirement. Using the boat as a 'country cottage' is also a treat for us.
  11. Running the RDCO scheme, calculating, collecting then paying the extra duty, also sending monthly returns involves a fair amount of admin work behind the scenes while the mark up is relatively low, perhaps 25p per litre. Unless you sell at a fixed percentage split, there is ample scope for dispenser error in calculating the amount to charge. It is easy to see why selling diesel to a few boaters is really not worthwhile to a business.
  12. This modern diesel with biofuel in doesn't keep nearly as long as the old gas oil product. Best not to sell it if there is insufficient turnover.
  13. The price for the diesel that we put in our boats includes 11.14p per litre lower rate of duty. This is part of the purchase cost paid by the vendor. The declaration that we make is for the percentage of the higher rate of duty which is charged on propulsion. The total duty for a litre of fuel for propulsion is 57.95p, so the percentage applies to the difference between the two duty rates of 46.81p. VAT on fuel used for heating is 5% but it is 20% on fuel used for propulsion.

  15. Especially on the HMC, I counted the exposed bricks to make sure the lock was full enough for my boat to leave it safely.
  16. Sorry I read it as £50-100 per annum.
  17. Your boat won't move far on £50 worth of diesel.
  18. If you had cruised the K&A, perhaps your final sentence would be a bit different.
  19. Likewise the amount of work involved in putting a 'plastic' water tank in our integral one. It seemed like a lot at the time but much easier than replacing stainless steel it seems.
