A corner bath, possibly with a shower fitted above may be a reasonable compromise. With a 55 litre calorifier you will struggle to fill even a small bath, to give an idea of volume that equates to two and a half jerry cans. As others have said, there are so many variables with toilets and pros and cons for all. As you say, plumbers willing to get involved with toilet installations are rare so simplicity is best, bearing in mind you may end up being the 'engineer'.

There are a fair number of shower wastes available now that are both low profile and allow access from the top in case of blockage, well worth fitting something like that. As others have said, fit a gulper somewhere other than under or behind the shower, as even though the gulper is super reliable it may need servicing at some point - i have only had to do so when a hair clip or similar works its way into the pump.

The Wellington is a fantastic boozer, a little bit of sanity in central Brum. Going back to the canal, the navigation is dog friendly and all are well behaved. The next one down, the Tom o the wood is as well, they were doing a doggie Sunday dinner after lunch with left overs. Both are in the Kingswood area.

And it is quite likely that the route chosen had more to do with creating a massive amount of brown field for development purposes, as the original route would have followed the M40 motorway, an ideal solution with easy access for delivered materials, an existing scar on the environment would have only been made larger and those displaced from properties beside it would be far less in number, and potentially end up in an improved situation. But the appeal to developers to build adjacent to the motorway would not be great. They have already earmarked all pristine green space between the northern end of Ickenham and Harefield as needed during development of that stretch, which in any sane mind is absurd and hard to justify.
