  3. I had a small leak on the boat when I brought her and have it a good check over on viewing. What I found was a lot of wet rot and replaced a third of the floor and all of the bedroom including ceiling top and bottom side panels wardrobe draws and bed oh and the wall partitions. Not a huge cost as I am a cabinet maker so my time free just materials. If I has to pay someone to do the work it could and probably would be around £2k. Admittedly this was a leak from the mushroom vent not plumbing but water from anywhere will spread a long way if left in checked. Gary
  4. A friend of mine paid £20,000 for a divorce recently! If you go to a solicitor the value of the boat would need to be huge if either of you won't to see any money! Find out exactly what your fighting for get your evidence and go to the small claims court if you can't amicably agree!
  5. Expensive all down to personal taste I guess
  6. I agree my point was to give Benefit of doubt and stay as polite as possible so as not to offend even though it annoys the hell out of me. Really I would like my bark to be louder than my bite. Keeping good karma these days. ?
  7. Maybe this should be a sticky thread pardon the pun! To try and encourage change not that the forum members would stoop to such behaviour.
  8. I have just read this whole story through and realised I saw you hand pulling about 6 miles from Charity dock in the summer. Well done to you and all the very best of luck for the future. This story would make a fantastic book! Gary
  9. The time has come to have a rant and get this off my chest! Now then I love dogs and I also like most of their guardians some that I see I adore from afar. However there are some that quite frankly I could follow to their home and stoop on their doorstep! More and more our towpaths are being degrigated by little whoopsie parcels left to tread in while mooring or just out for a stroll, there is nothing worse! These days it's hard to take in the wonder of our great countryside as one is constantly looking down for fear of treading in a pile of poop. And what is this latest craze of decorating the trees with little bags full of the stuff or just discarding it in the hedge. My dear dog owners and you know who you are please have some respect and clear your doggie whoopsie away in the bins provided. This of course is aimed at a small minority of owners not the vast majority of responsible owners however I make no apology if you are an offender and feel offended. Rant over thanks for listening Gary NB The Happy Bachelor. ??
  10. I have a few pit holes in the hull below water but only a few. I wonder rather than over plating that would be overdoing it and expensive is it possible practical acceptable to spot weld these little pits? As yet they have left about 3mm of the 6mm plate. ⚓️?
  11. I had a very similar problem in the summer on a 20 year old tank I tried an epoxy solution that quickly failed. I then removed the tank and cleaned the epoxy off and sift soldered over the leak that has held up no problem. However it has now found another weak spot in the tank and tommorow it comes out again for another repair. Good news is the origanal repair is still good! As the tank is old I am also going to reduce the pressure valve bar .5 of a bar in the hope this will take the stress out of the tank until I can afford a new one. Good luck!
  12. Having tested the fuse on my victron it seems to be fine however I did a continuity test between the large coiled wire thing and I a sure it has shorted as there is a circuit from both sides! Pretty sure there shouldn't be? It stopped working a few weeks ago and created a short circuit between live earth and neutral on the boats sockets! Can these things be repaired or is it scrap!
  13. Hi can any one tell me if the above has an internal fuse if so where is it located please.
  14. Thanks for the information I am heading towards middlewich and Nantwich. Off late this is becoming a little disturbing having just come of the Macclesfield canal where there have and still are a number of boat break-ins. The person on the Mac is generally taking food but does expensive damage getting in! I wonder is it the time of year for increased break-ins or is this an all year round activity?
  15. Probably wouldn't use it for frying my sausages! ?
  16. I used the fire ash and paper as suggested the results are fantastic even with high resin logs! I will try the brass solutions next time it's dry. Just a thought I wonder if soaking the roof vents in cola would work it certainly rots your teeth.
  17. Fantastic some great advice thank you all!! Gary
  18. My mushroom vents are baddly tarnished (brass) is there any products or better still kitchen cupboard products that will remove the tarnish without hours of polishing? Also what do you guys and galls use for your glass in the fire front? Many thanks Gary
