  1. I wasn't ruling out the smell coming from the tank I have since moved the tank outside and the smell has reduced however there still is a slight smell so I think it may have been a combination of both possibly
  2. Please read above I actually said the opposite in my OP
  3. Hi it only seems to Be when running I did get a leak from where the decoking leaver goes in but tightened it up and it stopped maybe it needs a new seal
  4. Hi thanks for replies there is no vent on the tank do you think this could be the issue. There is no leak I have even pressure tested the pipe
  5. Definitely no leak I have looked everywhere
  6. Hello, Those that have a diesel stove installed is their diesel tank located inside the boat or outside? My boat smells of diesel and was wondering if it would make any difference if I moved the tank? When I open the cudboard that the tank is in i can't actually smell anything. Regards Mitch
  7. Wish they would do that where my boat is so I can get my phone out!
  8. I have a bubble stove and think it's brilliant. They all take A bit of getting used to but once you understand how the OCV works you will be fine! The main benefit is being able to turn it on a low heat while you are out and when you get back in simply turn it up rather than messing about with coal etc. I have never found that there is a problem lighting mine, I simply turn it on and wait 20 secs for the fuel to flow in and then I light it with a lighter, put the catalyst back on and shut the door.
  9. Hello, I seem to have an annoying rattling sound coming from my stove fan. It even makes the noise when I pick it up and it's not in contact with anything. The blades definitely aren't touching I can't work out what it could be? I have had to stop using it as it's keeping me awake at night
  10. That's I have heard about the zinsser stuff before so may use that. It's definitely not burnt thebrown spots are where that paint has fallen off where there is a knot behind it. If it was burnt I would be very worried!
  11. Great thanks no I didnt prime it which I will do this time but is emulsion the right type of paint to use?
  12. Hello, When fitting my boat out i stupidly painted straight onto my softwood tongue and groove interior cladding with white emulsion paint. After a few months all the knots in the wood started to show through the paint and on the area around the fire all the paint had started to peel off. As I am away from the boat for a week I started to sand it back to the wood today. Can anybody recommend what paint I should be using for this type of application? Attached pics: Knots Showing Through: Peeling around fire area Thanks
  13. Thanks for the replies, I'm not opposed to the battery idea was just considering my options, lynch have some case studies on their website and have replaced a 47ft trip boat that had a 55hp BMc commodore with their 8KW motor. Which is why I thought it would be enough power. Does anybody have an idea on what sort of battery bank size I would need ? http://www.lynchmotors.co.uk/green-marine/electric-vehicle_motors.html
  14. Hello, Rather than replacing my engine I was thinking about fitting a 8KW Lynch electric motor, the voltage can be set from 12-72V. I want to be able to power the motor directly from the generator, is there a way to calculate what power output I would need on the generator and what kind of ac to dc converter I would need? Happy new year Mitch
  15. I would say it's not necessary to drain calorifier as its insulated anyway
  16. I had my boat out the water from Dec- march last year, there was no interior at the time so so water in the cabin to worry about but I didn't touch the water in the engine cooling or calorifier and all was ok for me. I also have a bmc 1.5
  17. Thanks for the replies will try both. It burns fine it's just the mess that it creates and it takes a long time to get hot. The carbon is a nightmare to get out of the pot because of the shape and ends up just creating mess everywhere!
  18. Well I don't want to now because it's so much added hassle I would rather just buy Diesel now but I need a new metering stem!
  19. Hello, After drilling my metering stem from the Toby valve wider to accept waste motor oil I now need an original metering stem if I ever want to run off of diesel again which I am probably going to do as I didn't realise the waste motor oil left so much residue behind. Does anybody have one for sale? Toby don't actually sell them so was thinking somebody may have a broken valve laying around what I could purchase? Thanks Mitch
  20. I have ekoply and it's not as strong as ply however does not melt in when the engine is running but I have re inforced it with roofing batterns underneath
  21. I have a cruiser stern with the exact same layout. When I first purchased boat there was 2 benches either side that converted into a double bed. The water and gas is at the front of my boat so had to run the whole way along however this was not an issue and for the waste just cut a new hole with skin fitting. I think the layout works well
  22. Hi Nmea, thanks for the reply. I have a D5W and the pump is £100+ I am thinking of replacing it with a regular 12v hot water circulation pump will this be ok? Something like this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271910186650
  23. Hello, I moved the header tank about 300mm across to fit another day tank in for my diesel stove. After re filling the system my eberspacher started making a funny noise and the radiators weren't getting hot. The pipes close to the eberspacher are very hot so it is heating the water it's just not getting circulated. Thought it might be an air lock so bled the system and still the same issue. So now I assume that the pump is not working, I took the pump off the eberspacher and wired it directly to the power supply to see if it would run, which it did and it did draw in water once primed but sprayed the water out rather than a constant flow. Does this mean the pump has packed up even though it still runs when connected to power?? One thing after the other !!!
