  1. The more I think about it, you're probably right!
  2. Piaggio? PIAGGIO??? That, my friend is a British built Reliant Ant
  3. I would suggest electromagnetic interference from the inverter.Switch on the washing machine could create a spurious emission from the inverter to interfere with the watch's gubbins. That said, EM emissions from any electrical device are strictly controlled in development and construction of CE comforming equipment, so it shouldn't happen. It could be interesting if you repeat the scenario but wrap one watch in tin foil and see what the result is.
  4. Will they dare to put a slipway in so it could be some of us canoeists and trailer boaters can access there?
  5. Count yourself lucky you were only untied. A few years ago there were some 'Do As You Likeys' camped in the carpark at Odiham. There were some of the kids on the road bridge which made us a little wary on the way up, then as we passed under on the way back they dropped a large lump of masonry which at a glance on it's way down was 3 or 4 coarses of a brick gatepost. Thankfully I saw it being lifted over the parepet and only due to being a small boat with a rapid turn of speed it missed but would have easily gone straight through our fibreglass and killed anyone if it hit them. Reported it, never heard a thing.
  6. The trip boat Captain was referring to the moorings right at the end (ie he'd never seen three boats at the end moorings at once). Oopps, sorry. My mistake!
  7. He's not very observant then, about five years ago we went to a rally at Odiham, NBs were double parked from before the A287 bridge to beyond the Waterwitch. Bank holiday weekend there was a lot of movements of various NBs and cruisers heading west from Crookham. There is an automated boat counter between Crookham and Dogmersfield, and I believe another between Ash and Mychett although how they can restrict the number of movements given the 3 slipways and numerous canoes and dinghies in the area that will add to the boat count.
  8. A couple of very low bridges, 5' 10" clearance I think. There are some restrictions around Winchfield where there's been a landslide - not closed but ask the ranger for the latest. If you fancy dining out there are many eateries and take-aways within a few minutes walk of Reading Road bridge in Fleet, also shopping. Most importantly, enjoy.
  9. Just received this email, won't bother licencing my boat for this year now. Dear All Farnborough International have asked that a small portion of the Canal between Eelmoor and Norris Bridges be closed during flying hours at this year’s Farnborough Airshow. This is as a result of new safety regulations introduced following the Shoreham Airshow crash last year restricting low level flying. As a major event supporting the national economy Hampshire County Council and Basingstoke Canal Authority are happy to support Farnborough International so that they can comply with the new regulations brought into place following the CAA final report from their Civil Air Display Review. A joint press release from Farnborough International and Hampshire County Council has now been issued on the Farnborough International website www.farnborough.com Q: Where will the Canal be closed? A: The Canal and towpath from a point just east of Eelmoor Bridge to a point just west of Norris Bridge will be closed as part of the Airshow perimeter during the hours of flying on 4 - 9 July (noon to approx. 4.30pm) and 11 - 17 July (noon to approx. 5.30pm). Q: Why weren’t Canal users consulted? A: Farnborough International are reacting to changes in national safety regulations made by the Civil Aviation Authority which have only recently been finalised; it wasn’t until April that we were aware that there would be an implication for the Canal, unfortunately that meant there was no time to conduct any form of consultation before the decision had to be made about this year’s Airshow. Q: Will I be able to stand on the towpath, or on a moored boat between Eelmoor and Norris Bridges to watch the flying displays? A: No – the area will be secured by the Airshow’s security team. Safety regulations mean that no-one is allowed in this area during the flying displays.
  10. The four in the picture on my previous post are on a 14' yoghurt pot so go for it and have as many as you like! This lot are worth a look, they have a good range... http://truckstuff.co.uk/
  11. These are 12v electric, they require relays but no compressor or plumbing.
  12. Just to clarify, DERV is white diesel and can be used in all applications. Red diesel aka Gas Oil is dyed red and contains chemical markers as it is taxed at a lower rate and it's use applications are limited.
  13. A reliable source around the local farms tells me that as of next year the amount of bio in diesel both red and white is to be doubled, and as a result will only have a storage life of around 3 months. Apparently it goes bad in the same way petrol does. So filling the tank over winter it goes off, leave it empty fills with condensation - your choice. I don't understand the problem with a glass filter bowl though.
  14. Just being a bit of a trailer anorak but what stands out to me as a way of identifying/ruling out possibilities is the unusual arrangement of overrun coupling with a single axle and 10" wheels.
  15. Some years ago we had a Landrover Ambulance stolen one Saturday night from the local St. John headquarters. Monday morning I contacted a local radio station to ask if they would mention it in case someone had seen it and they absolutely refused saying the request would need to come from the police. Bah humbug. So not to be beaten that quickly I rang another local station who took the bull by the horns, not only put out that it was missing but put it in the news headlines as well. Headlined at 8 and 9am, by 10am there had been a sighting and by lunchtime we had it back! It's worth a try.
