  2. Just had this e.mail from BW British Waterways' mooring tenders online system is now in the final stages of testing. Customer Services and local moorings staff have all been trained. We are putting the finishing touches to descriptions of more than 40 mooring vacancies which will be the first to be advertised for tender. Almost 3,000 people have registered their interest in the mooring tenders trial. BW has sent out postal tender packs to just under 100 people who have registered for the postal option (for which there is a £10 fee). As soon as the mooring tender system goes live (which we anticipate will be during the week of 22 October), we will email and direct you to the mooring tenders pages on waterscape.com. 3000 interested parties for just 40 moorings. Light blue touch paper and retire.
  3. Hi Reg Aquafax do them. I bought a 60 ltr Inox compact , Cat No 9-93114B . Have not fitted it yet so cannot comment further. Take a look on there site and see what you think. The only point worth mentioning at the moment is that if you wish to install it vertically the manual states that it performs best with all the connections being at the bottom which means it would have to be at least 400mm above the floor in order to remove the electric heating element if need be. I am going to look into what performance is lost if I fit with the connections at the top. Hope this helps.
  4. Hi Dor Thanks for your reply. I must crack on with the job so will use brass for the time being as that is what I have. Should anyone come up with anything, it will be no problem to change over at a later date. Thanks
  5. Concerned !!! But didnt you live in a water tank ?
  6. Hi Daniel I have just been looking at the site John posted and they also stock hep20 parts which they say are not suitable for stainless. The problem I see is there has to be a point where you have to change from stainless . It cant be that difficult as there are 100s if not 1000s of stainless water tanks out there.Come on guys what are you using ? Thanks for your post John.
  7. Hi I am about to fit and plumb in a stainless water tank . I have been informed not to use any brass connectors as they will react to the stainless steel,is this correct and if so what type do I require. I need to come off 90 degrees from the breather with some form of 15mm hose connector and a ball or gate valve for the outlet. The filler is no problem as it will be plastic pipe. Thanks
  8. My apologies ,I failed to take on board that you would be undertaking the very work yourself. Allowing BW or the EA to undertake the work would only result in rape, pillage and plunder. I have witnessed so called sympathetic dredging on my own river ( which is non navigable ) and would if costs allowed try and take a court injunction on them ever setting foot on the land again never mind with a dredger. Speaking from bitter experience so lets not go there, and yes I will give you a hand with your haven ,not ot sure though of some of the other parts.
  9. My canal would be a haven for wildlife. The canal would be kept dredeged and weed free. Sorry you can only have one or the other not both
  10. Hi all, I have been looking at chimney collars and have noticed that they are made out of steel or cast iron, is there any benefit from using one or the other ?
  11. They certainly have value. They look ideal for growing runner beans up.
  12. Thanks everyone for your replies. Its quite clear that its all down to what the person is prepared to accept and what the circumstances are at the time. However I am nervous of meeting this commodore chappy sods law and all that.
  13. Hi NB If I was claiming against somebody else I would'nt worry what their excess is unless of coarse you have to go through your own insurers. What I was trying to get at is whether exchanging paint is an accepted part of canal life.It is only out of curiosity as I am not afloat for a while yet (boats taking a lot longer to build than first thought ) and it came up in discussion with a friend who is also building one and jokingly (hopefully) suggested it is a contact sport.
  14. Hi all Out of curiosity what constitutes an insurance claim against another party ? I have often read on this forum about boats clashing, being rammed by holiday makers etc. and wondered whether you would chase someone for taking your paint off (as you would if someone did it to your car) or whether much more substantial damage needs to be inflicted before you persued them ?
  15. I have just raised this issue with my surveyor (and at £50 per hour + Vat) Chris must be spot on at 10ins as this is the same distance specified by my surveyor. However should you have difficulty in getting 10ins because of some obstruction, the basin and outlet are effectivly a sealed unit so as long as the top of the basin is 10ins above waterline it has the same effect.By this I think he was inferring that a leeway of 1 or 2 ins is acceptable. I now await to be told either to sack him or pay more attention. PS £50 per hour is my surveyors fee not Chris's.
  16. Try seals direct they do all sizes of neoprene seals. http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/

  18. Hi John Have you tried Timbmet ? They seem to stock the entire A-Z of hardwoods. They are not within 50miles of you but I'm sure delivery could be arranged. http://www.timbmet.com.
  19. Thanks for that. I will give him a call first thing.
  20. Hi all, I was thinking of installing an Aldi 3010 compact boiler into the boat I am building. However I was informed today ( not by Alde) that the new model Alde cannot have any copper in the system and as such I will have to fit Aldes own calorifier. Having looked at their website I can find no reference to this or any calorifiers that they make. Has anyone else heard of this ? I'm a bit miffed because I have already bought a calorifier which contains copper so am now thinking of going diesel.
  21. A big pike worthy of an entry into the angling books of history is a fish of 35lbs or over. This weight reduces the amount of entries into which research is required to establish whether the entry is true. An Angler by the name of Fred Buller researched over 230 of these big pike going back as far as 1784. The result of what must have been years of hard work resulted in his book " The Doomesday book of Mammoth Pike" . A very interesting read. Where Fred Buller left off another angler called Neville Fickling took up the reigns and has recently completed a book called simply "Mammoth Pike" which brings the list up to date. An entry which will no doubt be made in the next update will be one of 39lb 8oz caught by Lyn Baker from a Scottish lake ,this being the one you refere to. Hope I hav'nt bored you but you did ask.
  22. Hi John Are you sure ? BW may think you can fish from a boat without a license but the Environment Agency would have you in court no problem at all. Are you not confusing it with a permit to fish which is a different thing alltogether. A rod license gives you the right to use a rod but does not give you the right to fish. You must have the permission of the owner or tenant of the fishing rights first. So could it be that if you are moored in an area where BW have not leased the fishing rights to a club or other body then it is OK to fish without a permit as one would not be required. But please everyone, you run the risk of a huge fine and or imprisonment as well as a criminal record if caught without a valid rod license.
  23. Hi Thanks Garry for getting info for me but West Yorkshire is quite a hike from where I am based (near Milton Keynes) so I am afraid I will have to decline from that one.Lathams however is just down the road so will probably have alook at them (Thanks Big Steve)
  24. Thanks guys I will take a look at Homebase tomorrow and most of the other DIY chains to try and get some idea and also look into the laminate side of things. In the meantime if anyone else knows of a supplier I would be most gratefull.
