  1. Taking it easy, it should take you 2 days to get to the Black Country Museum, where there are good safe overnight moorings. You can easily spend the whole day at the Museum. The Wolverhampton flight we didn't find that bad, just take your time. There is a good bacon buttie wagon near one of the locks near the top, in an easily got-to Industrial estate.
  2. Strewth!! Mayalld, be aware that Hearings in a Magistrates Court are criminal hearings. In fact they hear the initial Hearings on nearly every case in the country, from murder to drink driving. They may pass that Hearing on to a Higher Court. Phyllis has had her day in Court and been found guilty and paid her dues. I do wonder whether some of the comments on this forum are now heading into illegal territory by making further accusations.
  3. Paul, your ideas are possibly worth discussing, but you have antagonised people by picking on the 4x4 owner for no good reason. What is it with the "greens" that they have to blame 4x4's for all the sins of the world? Perhaps if you hadn't done that you "might" have got somesensible replies.
  4. I see someone has suggested Kingspan as an insulating material, but what about wool? We have just insulated several walls of our house with it, and it comes in "bats" approx 4' x 2' and in thicknesses from 1" to 6". Not cheap, but we have found it to be excellent. Plus it doesn't mind getting slightly damp, and according to the figures actually increases it's thermal capacity when it is.
  5. I know lets spout some more economic, unresearched drivel and then come to the crux of the matter and blame 4x4's for all the ill's of the world. GET A LIFE 4x4's are no worse than millions of other cars, and lots better than some.

  7. If they are permanently moored in Northwick Marina, how can they go anywhere? (Add: since when has the "hole in the wall" at Northwick been a Marina?)
  8. 1 gallon = 4.5 litres (roughly) Therefore 1 gallon every 3 hours?
  9. Well I am sat here less than 10 miles from the actual source of the Severn, and can happily say that there has been some rain, but not a lot, and currently the Severn and the Clywedog or both fairly low. The higher ground is quite dry at the moment so is acting like a huge sponge and "keeping" the wet in.

  11. I can't see there would be any areas to avoid, as nearly the whole canal is rural. Beautiful area, just down the road from me, but one I have never cruised. Must do it one day!!
  12. No, you ara really looking at something the size of a Land Rover 110, Discovery, Range Rover, or Nissan Patrol.
  13. Thank you Sir. £2 and odd coppers added to the Wales Air Ambulance tin on our counter!!
  14. Send it to me and I will put £2 in the Welsh Air Ambulance tin.
  15. They were a customer of mine when I was a rep in that area, but as you now know, they closed down a while ago. Think one of their fitters went to Pinders and someone else went to the yard by the Eagle & Sun at Hanbury. Nice boats. Had a stand at the NEC one year.

  19. SWMABO is a lace maker, and agrees that most of the lace found on trad boats is "crochet lace". She suggests looking in the local library for a book, and on the Lace Makers Guild web site, as there might be a group near you.
  20. I heard a rumour today that a certain "hire" boat company, well known for their windowless front, has been bought out by ABC! Are they trying to take over all hire boating on the canals in UK?
  21. We have exactly that sort of thing in our 13' caravan and have no problem with it. Doesn't matter how flimsy it is, as it rests on the floor so that takes the "strain", and we have cut a pice of rubber backed carpet to fit inside the tray when not being used as a shower, therby protecting it from rough shoes.
  22. Wouldn't recommend Diglis now as the new flats have some "unsavoury" characters living in them. Good idea about Viking and not too far to walk to Digis, but you will need your BW key to get in.
  23. We've just taken it out for the same reason (poor reception), and the only reason you need a phone line is to activate the card when you get it. Wasn't queried with me when I rang. EDIT Thinking about it, my daughter and her boyfriend took out Freesat recently and they only have moblie phones, and she had no problems
