    Perhaps you are right. I don't envy those who have wide-beams when it comes to actually planning where you can or can't go.

    If the purpose is to see who is using the waterways and where they are, then the system is a perfect solution. However, by taking index numbers this is irrelevant to the hire boats. Hence, is there much point in it all? But i do see the point in general making admin and bookings easier if all you need to do is give your index number and they will instantly have the rest

    Dave - Instead of responding to someone with an insulting manner, it would have been far more constructive, and respectful even, if you had been so in post No.2. Yes i agree its a discussion forum and opinions count, but your post was over the line.

    The waterways World Annual 2015 has a free map within, and it clearly shows which canals are broad or narrow
