  1. yes Barton. Only going by what they told me on the phone today. Might have a drive up there tomorrow to check it out.
  2. The one in the photo is my old K2 Busa which I have since sold. I know have a K9 Busa as well as a ZZR1400, a 650 Bandit, a T140V Bonneville. No shortage of bikes to ride. P.S the K9 will be going up for sale this year if you are interested?
  3. I know. You are quite correct. I might swim into the marina via the canal and "steal" my boat ?
  4. Ii light of the latest email from CRT I told her indoors that we can take the boat out this weekend for a short chug to Wychnor lock and back. A bit of lunch then come home as long as we don't stay on it overnight.. Happy days! But Not Happy days.. phoned the Marina and they remain CLOSED until further notice. Probably June they said So despite what CRT says I cant get my boat out of the marina and onto the canal as its a private business Sad.. isn't the word
  5. boat owner pontoon 61 lived on the boat. he is a nice guy and has lost his home..
  6. me too.. but no copy found will call CRT in morning . not a good weekend really
  7. Hi Ditch. wish my company had.. What I cant understand is why CRT gave me a licence with no insurance in place for years? will call them tomorrow
  8. yep. the Fire Brigade sank the boats with all the water from their hoses
  9. Hi fellow boaters. I am the owner of the boat with the blue awning (Dinard). I was not over France but actually riding my motorbike at the time of the fire and only found out about the incident when the police phoned me to check that I was still alive and not on the boat. Its been a real horrible weekend for me and missis. We have lost the Dinard through no fault of our own. The boat was our pride, joy and sanctuary weekend retreat. We feel bereaved . Below is a transcript of a statement I am preparing because .. guess what. I have discovered that my insurance had not auto renewed and had lapsed.. a bummer At 12.50pm on Friday 21st October a fire broke out on “Corialis” a GRP boat moored in berth 64 on pier 2 at Barton Marina My boat “Dinard” was moored adjacent to “Corialis” in berth 63. The fire spread to my boat and across to two other boats moored in berths 62 & 61. The fire brigade was called but unfortunately all 4 boats were destroyed by fire and sunk. The owner of “Corialis” had left his boat unattended while using the marinas shower facility when the fire started. I was not at the marina at the time and only became aware of the incident after a phone call from the police. I purchased “Dinard” in August 2009 at a cost of £6,750. Since then I have spent approximately £3,500 upgrading the vessel. Dinard was a 26’ long GRP cabin cruiser built by Burland in 1980. The fire was covered by a local online paper and I include photos downloaded showing the sequence of events. A video can be seen below link. http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/fierce-blaze-at-barton-marina-sinks-one-boat-and-severely-damages-others/story-29829584-detail/story.html Unfortunately I have discovered that my boat was not insured. For some reason the original insurance policy direct debit did not auto repeat. Apparently the salvage & removal costs of all boats are taken from the separate boat owners insurers. I will now have to pay a quarter of this myself which will not be cheap. I need to make a private claim for the total loss of my boat as well as the additional salvage cost against the boat owner’s insurance policy.
  10. hi. a bit late. but I changed the CDI on my BF15 outboard only to discover that the problem was a sticky fuel pump! quick clean and OK..
  11. hi all. I too received the dodgy email from test member.. glad I did. first time i have signed on for a couple of years and forgotten what a good forum this is..
  12. From the responses so far sounds like it might be just me! Nice Lid by the way Bazza2!
  13. That's good then.. I am glad that you now see it as the statement of fact that it is
  14. Hi folks.. I am relatively new to boating (just coming up to 4 years now) However, I discovered, quite early on, that the vast majority of tow-path anglers actually hate the fact that you are daring to interrupt the water with your accursed boat and frighten off all the little fish they are tying to extract from the canal. Initially I used to wave, nod and even try to engage in friendly polite chat with them.. but what a waste of time.. little or no response.. most ignore your presence I don't bother to do it now.. not even make eye contact. (Yes. And I I do slow right down for them). One recently even gave me some verbal abuse as well as the vee sign Personally I am not bothered if all they want to do is spend a day (away from their missuses) sitting at the side of the canal danging a maggot on the end of a fishing line in the hope of catching a (completely inedible) fish.. whatever floats your boat and turns you on.. But what I do object to is the glaring looks and the "waves of hate" that I feel as I chug past the miserable so-and-so's OR Am I the only one that thinks this?
  15. Yes I am sure that it is possible without full throttle I am sure.. I just wanted to see what my tub could do. Whats wrong with that? Nowt wrong with having a bit of an adventure on the canals either (maybe you should try it sometime?) More importantly.. I was not "boasting" just relaying the facts and to see what others thought.
  16. I seem to have started a right debate here.. First to ravenspell - give it a go one day and see if you can beat my time? sounds like you might be able too as well! let me know.. Second to everyone - I dunno about the 4mph limit applying to the tunnel.. the keepers weren't bothered by my "speeding" at all. The tunnel also has a concrete "road" they put in a few years ago under the water. Also I doubt whether any significant wash damage can be done to the brick walls either. After all how many folks go full throttle it though the tunnel after all? (only me and a handful of others by the sounds of it?). All I can say is that it was far easier and safer to go through it "making a bit of progress" than crawling along at a snails pace clattering all the sides.. (far more damage likely to be done smashing the sides of the nearly 200 year old bricks than a bit of wash methinks..)
  17. Hi Boaters.. Just a note to say that a couple of weekends ago (Sunday 11th August 2013) my humble GRP cruiser "Dinard" (a 1975 built Burland) set the speed record for a "habitable" boat through the Harecastle Tunnel (North to South) We did a "spin round" at the North portal after previously coming through from south behind slow moving narrow boats. I had told the south tunnel keeper that we were going to do this so he radioed the north keeper with all the boat details. All I had to do was spin it round and be the first into the tunnel. After previously clattering the sides of my boat on the tunnel south to north crawling behind narrow boats (being the last due to petrol engine) I decided to full throttle it north to south. (Plastic boats need a bit of speed in order to steer) Happy days.. boat nicely stable and emerged the south portal 20 minutes 20 seconds later.. This time was verified by the South Keeper (David is his name I think) He told me that the fastest time though was 7 minutes! (a speedboat). The fastest narrowboat was 23 minutes!.. must have been well powerful. Anyway.. will update this when I fit a bigger outboard (currently 15hp Honda) see how quick with a 25hp?) I would upload some pics If I knew how too?
