  1. Oh yes i was going to buy it myself but Jaynes parking space at work wouldn't work for it.
  2. Absolutely not we got the Ampera at a bargain price, she would have to pay double or maybe treble to get something as good or as big, these cars were made at the Cadillac factory in the USA, soit was lot of car for little money
  3. Just look at Nocola and see why Elon is looking smug, the ground breaking hydrogen truck was filmed rolling down a hill bec9it didn't work not good really
  4. My daughter is doing government paid research into hydrogen at Leeds university, she doesn't see it as a viable solution to cars, trains, or even lorries. I gave you some reasons why earlier their are plenty more. Ships and planes are better suited, ships especially as they can store it as ammonia where it's safe and stable
  5. I am saying it like it is, the world is moving away from fossil fuels, the reality is poorer countries will suffer unless solutions are found for them. If it's about the world recovering from global warming against some people continuing to burn oil we all know what will happen. As the technology becomes available it will as always become cheaper and poorer countries will get it, this is the way of the world, I can't see it changing any time soon
  6. Where to start, one its dangerous very dangerous, two it destroys metals it comes into contact with, three it takes 4 x more energy to produce green hydrogen than just using the electric, Four n winter hydrogen fill points freeze up, five fuel cells cost an absolute fortune electric drive is cheap in comparison, six its very inefficient in comparison to electric, seven the national grid is there already why create something else that ha to drive there? Eight look on the internet under hydrogen filling station on fire not pleasant In rotherham we have one of the few hydrogen filling stations around, it belongs to Sheffield Uni its powered by a wind turbine which hardly spins because demand is so low
  7. Methane is also being catered for but it means that animals dont see the light of day to capture and control the emissions from those animals. Mac a farmer in Auchencairn runs all his farm from this gas and will when tractors become more readily available do the same with them. On the Broads Hybrid Broads cruisers are available, they go out at a premium and have been fully booked when I tried to hire one, they are electric drive with solar and an auto generator, however charging points are readily available on the Broads
  8. The oil producers will turn off the taps to force the price back up again just like they did this year
  9. Yet my daughters Vauxhall ampera range extender hasnt used any petrol this year in its running around so are they daft? she has the ability to go to Leeds and back daily on electric but if need be she can go much further and still run around London for free That might be now but things are changing wind turbines/solar farms are on the increase in the states and Teslas battery storage helps out if the wind doesnt blow or the sun doesnt shine
  10. To put it bluntly we on boats will be collateral damage we are to small in number to have an effect and people are shifting over anyway not just me but people ordering new boats. If the government changes to 2030 for an end to new ICI vehicles and car makers like VW are planning for an earlier shift along with others we will just end up sidelined! It isnt important that we cruise for 8 hours a day its not like lorries delivering food we are just a lifestyle leisure group and count for diddly squat especially if CRT can point to significant numbers of electric boats already. As Ian says its no good looking for why it cant happen look at why it will, on our moorings 3 boats go out regular out of 50 boats one third of those boats that move is electric and it probably does the most miles
  11. I know what you are saying but the price of oil will only ever move upwards unless this virus takes a really serious turn and wipes out 4/5ths of the worlds population so the third world will get squeezed by the first world
  12. The clean electric generation is being increased all the time Tim , whether you like it or not oil is to valuable to waste on transport so electric transport will prevail
  13. A good post Ian, however I move a lot, not this year but last year I was out at weekends and had an extended holiday, where Jayne caught the train to meet up with me for a couple of weeks, this year would have been similar but Corona put paid to it
  14. I have a 36kwh battery bank over 10 hours without sun is achievable, the problem is some people play at electric me I thought it through and so have finesse but don't worry when diesel is 10 quid a litre I am sure you will still cruise all the time Very special I have tried holding my boat at gainsborough impossible had to tie it up again
  15. Have another beer. Electric motor using super conductors are very efficient
  16. And we haven't even talked about putting ecofans on the stern pushing hot air................??
  17. Fortunately scientists are changing things solar panels for one I was surprised to find, batteries wise same again what we have I doubt will be what we have in a few years time, what is for certain is oil is on the way out
  18. nope just telling you how it is
  19. I used to be the tram operates very near to my boat, pointless getting a car out most times especially when you factor in beer
  20. I think the real idea is we charge at home, they are putting in lamp post chargers and ones that pop up out of the ground so we are moving forward gently. I look at Norway where the majority of cars sold now are electric so we will be a few years behind them
  21. Its happening Tim their is always the electric bus for you ?
  22. Yes in a word! I have a a widebeam with wheelhouse it can be difficult at times [wheelhouse folds down] for most dutch barges the places I go are a no go for them. Also the space inside is more limited, I have had a narrowboat and would be hard pushed to go back to one again, but if you want to do the whole network its a 57 x 6 10 for you
  23. And yet more and more electric cars are being sold Tim and the benefits to companies and company car drivers will put them to the top of the list. Car makers arnt really interested in private car buyers we are the minority car leasing and companies are the real target. If you have not been watching google etc lots of delivery companies are ordering electric vans wonder why that is?
