  1. When I was into the lumpy water stuff, I had a clinker built Mapleleaf. Whenever that went back in the water - even after a few days out for anti-fouling - it would take in a lot of water. Very frightening the first time. Rob....
  2. The guy in the shop said that he'd seen it before (something to do with the little washer vibrating) and to try the tail first as it was cheaper than a reg'. Mind you, mine was loud enough to make people comment on it. Rob....
  3. It only seems that fast because you're going the opposite way doh Rob....
  4. As the actress said to the bishop! On a Beta control panel, the stop button, is it push to break or push to make? Thanks Rob....

  6. I had this problem a while ago. Would hum only on one side. Went to shop for a new reg' and the guy said to try changing the flexy pipe first, which I did. Problem solved. Rob....
  7. Sorry Seti, should have done it yesterday. For your good idea have a green jobbie. Rob....

  9. Problem half sorted. Friend coming for a visit and a trip out (hopefully) Monday. Thanks everyone for your help and advice. Problem posted and half sorted in under two hours.....Not too shabby! Rob....
  10. "Finding solutions is what I do." Eh!! Well, I've got hair growing out of......Oh never mind. Rob.... .
  11. That's the kiddie. Thanks Richard. I don't happen to have one. But I know someone that has and will do anything (well...almost anything) for a trip out on the boat. I'd better get busy on the phone. Rob....
  12. Now that's a good idea. I never thought of that. If I'm very careful I can see that working as I only need to support the engine. Rob.... It's a trad. The rear of the gearbox to where the prop goes through the stern gland, this all sit in a very acute triangle. If one could get a very, very small jack there, there is absolutely no room whatsoever to pump or turn a handle. Rob.... ETA. I'll see if I can take a photo.
  13. I'm on the LLangollen but as I said before "There isn't any room for any sort of jack." A couple of years ago I had to replace the drive plate. The only way was with a girder across the slider above the engine, and use a winch. Rob....
  14. I did think of that but I have tried before to get a jack down there but there just isn't enough room. I think that I may have to give it a try. I only need it to support the engine not actually lift it up. I think that if I can support it, I could then remove the engine mounting bracket.
  15. Thanks but no scaffold pole handy. Bit like a Spanish wotsit? Rob....
  16. Got a bit of a problem. I’m moored in the middle of nowhere with a collapsed engine mount. I DO have an engine mount and plenty of spanners and sockets. Unfortunately I don’t have anything to lift the engine up with. No jacks (no room anyway) and no lifting gear. Trad stern. Vetus 4.17. Deep and tight engine ‘ole. Any ideas that I could try? Thanks for any help/advice. Rob….

  19. When we moved aboard, we had regrets. Six months later, we had regrets. Even now ten years later, we have regrets. As Phil said "You're gonna love it." Regrets?? Yeah! Why the hell didn't we do this sooner!!?? Rob....

  24. Get and save a collection of beer cans and sprinkle them around your mooring together with bits of machinery.....see if the bu**ers stop then.
