There are some lovely islands to moor on below Cookhams Lock. Very quite, and just lovely. Free of charge. I think they're called cookham islands. About 10 mins cruise below cookham lock. Just to add: Ask the lock keepers for their local knowledge. They are very helpful and know their stuff.

How do they compare?

I was washing my boat today, finally, after having picked up all the sewage and muck from the K&A. ( I'll never go there again, muck caked all over me rivets ) I felt put to shame by a man who was cleaning his Hudson boat with water from a very shiny copper bucket. But I am now, only a day from braunston. Thought I ought to make the effort.

I saw a couple of those today. Do they always have mock canvas, with wanna be trader signs? As well as the false rivets?

Well, he ( nigel moore ) might get your goat, that's your issue, and an issue shared with few. Rather than say Nigel Moore is a hero of mine, I'd prefer to say he is someone I respect for their integrity. His legal speech baffles me. His ethos is spot on. Glenn.

T for Thatcham then?I ve been through Sunday matches around there. Never come across signs though. I guess when they peg for a match, if a boat is already there they peg either side?

Just guessing:Most fishing matches are held on a Sunday. The match will have been pegged. I bet when you go through tomorrow they'll be fishing there. If so, it'll perhaps be a temporary thing. Yes, of course! I'm thinking of wrong lock. Thanks but I didn't end up there (the white bear) I tried mooring but there was a shelf of gravel and I couldn't get my boat to the bank. So I carried on and didn't stop till Watford. Then ended up in a horrible harvester. But thanks for the chat. After you left a man arrived with his little daughter and she was asking all about the locks and how they fill and empty. I'm at Cosgrove now. Cheers!
