  1. Nothing is wrong with sticking to the rules. It's commendable. And well done to nicknorman who has never broken one. because I am questioning rules or don't believe everything written on a plaque is law, it doesn't mean I'm stirring a rebellion. I'll try to solve my mooring problems with others on the towpath as and when they arise, or ignore them. I can't do solar and electrics, is Dean on about that? And overstaying is when you go beyond 14 days, or whatever the little sign says. Unless of course you have a good reason to remain.
  2. Unfortunately, he's quiet. Possibly travelling about? I would be if I hadn't been suffering all day.
  3. More than most are well intentioned. And more than most are a little more positive about others than you seem to be. I'm off to see if DeanS has posted anything interesting, he usually makes me chuckle. Happy days Glenn
  4. Thanks, nigelmoore, for explaining, and I hope you don't think I was looking for an angle to over stretch my mooring or suggesting others need not bother about time limits. I like your last paragraph; "The time limits are generally sensible and good guidelines for boaters to follow, and they should be followed. They should be followed because they show consideration for the rest of us, not because they are enforceable law." I think the way of doing things on the cut works so well because people here are, on the whole, considerate and good natured. I guess, I just disagree with the demand by so few for more enforcement, which will itself lead to further restrictions. I would have thought it much better to sort out an issue on the towpath whenever possible. Or ignore it,if its doing no harm. I get the feeling that it's an eye spy game for some, who just can't wait to broadcast their findings. There is a lovely freedom to be had on the waterways. I would hate to see it eroded by officialdom.
  5. I bet CRT would like to argue that. I 'll have google for that act.
  6. I don't know why I quoted you? I take back the word advisory
  7. The terms and conditions of the licence are not laws. A safety certificate and insurance may well be. But the general terms are not laws. I reckon that's a fair statement. And of course overstaying can be very unfair. I wont disagree with that. But I bet everyone on here has overstayed at some point or other. And can justify their reason. So I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. And can't really see the point of photographing them or recording them on here. There's piss takers everywhere, more enforcement won't get rid of them. There are more interesting issues to get steamed up about than piss takers.
  8. I am not suggesting to disregard then. And the vast majority of boaters do not disregard them. I have never found a problem mooring. The time limits are not law. Just an advised limit of stay
  9. No. Aren't visitors moorings advisory, not a law? Yes it's damned inconvenient if you want to be there, and I'm not promoting overstaying, but it ain't hard to find some where to tie up.
  10. Very soon they'll all be having hair bouffants down there too. Bradford on Avon getting an on water hair 'salon' (allegedly) Really scary. More reason to stay away.
  11. I've seen it down the West Country on the K&A. Happens all the time down there, it's like that wicker man film down there. Don't go there!
  12. They're a contradictory bunch. They told me they didn't like me travelling through 5mm of ice but preferred me to moor at a swing bridge. I had three nights there. Between sells green and Seend on the K&A. Perhaps boaters know the rights and wrongs a lot better than C&RT. They'll contradict each other over the phone too. Glenn
  13. I went to the meeting. Was very definitely not a C&RT bashing. Nigel Moore is a good speaker. I'd recommend any live aboard to attend one of the National Bargee Travellers Association's meetings if they possibly can. Glenn
  14. Red boards at Oxford is a good reason for not moving on, so C&RT would be very unreasonable to issue any instruction to do so. I waited 2 weeks last October, nothing was said, there were lots waiting. As for him being unlicensed, thats a different matter. I think people have to be careful they know the 'rules' too, before making accusations. Glenn
  15. I usually wait til I visit someone in an house and take my 240v clippers. I only have 2 cuts a year, so not really a problem. The next one is due in August. What I am on the lookout for is a12v beard trimmer, that'll plug into a cigarette lighter. Glenn
  16. The last time I had my baldy head trimmed was in Bradford on Avon! and being a tight git, I had a shop around to see who was best value. And Bradford has a few hair dressers. The best value I found, for someone with not a lot of hair and who just wants a no2 shaved head, is the first barber you come to, walking into town, by that fancy tea shop. But if next time I can get a cheaper hair cut, whilst my boats going up or down in the lock, then I'm all for it.
  17. Funny story, made me chuckle, cheers. A slight aside but with dry pounds in mind: It reminds me of the pound at Seend on the K&A that I used to find dry. But before filling it I would climb down and pick out the windlasses. Other than that the pound is really very clean and tidy. I didn't see any turds sitting on the bottom, as other threads might have you believe.
  18. I've just come through Brentford, and it really is filthy, if I fell in, I'd prefer to take my chances on the K&A open sewer. I'm on the way up to Brum so thanks for the local knowledge.
  19. Reading through it, it seems fair enough. I do like that K&A community website. The layout makes it dead easy to find stuff out. I recommend it to anyone staying down there for anytime. Keeps you up to date with the stoppages and burglaries, events and meetings.
