  1. I'm in the market for some solar panels Around the 80 - 100W range. 2/3 off (need to double check how many will fit once I have dimensions). Plus an MPPT(?) controller (20 or 30 amp depending on panel output) It's been 5 years since I bought my last lot (2 x 85W and a 20 amp controller) and I know solar technology has improved a bit, so what's best on the market in terms of type/value etc. Also, on the basis that they'll not do a great deal over Winter, is now a good time to buy (cheap deals?) or hang on til spring? Any good deals out there to be had?

  3. That's what I'm reckoning. Just which way everything rotates now
  4. The only advice I'll add to MM's comments (and I know he won't mind) is, don't even try to repair, reseal it etc if you don't know absolutely what you are doing. A leaky stove will kill you

  6. If the river is flowing to fast for it to push against it, you should be mooried up I had a 16hp Petter twin in a 50' and that did a lot of river work. Work 'em hard. They love it ;o)
  7. I hope it doesn't look like that on 20th December
  8. There's a bit of info here: http://www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=72118&hl=
  9. Just had a play and the input is half engine speed. ie. 400 rpm input shows as 800 rpm on the gauge The 90 deg' gear is 1:1 Driven off the fuel pump could be an option? if it's the right rotation
  10. It's removable in the sense that it comes off the rear of the gauge and all you're left with is stub and a gear wheel .... and yes, it only works if rotated in one direction, so you're right that will be a factor. I hadn't thought of that I'll post a piccy
  11. I was thinking of some sort of drive from the fuel pump as well. I'm going to have a play with a drill/hand held tacho and the Smiths tach at the weekend to try to find out the input drive ratios. It's got a worm and wheel 90 deg gear at the rear of the gauge which is removable. That must also effect the ratio or they'd use a bevel gear for 1:1 drive(?)
  12. I have in my posession a very nice old Tacho that was off an Ailsa Craig RF series engine. It's just about the perfect size at 4" and I'd like to somehow fit it to Ye Olde JP It is cable driven and I still need to work out the drive ratios. Any ideas on how to set up a drive for it from a JP Lister?

  15. And a lot more comfortable. As you say, the internal fabric of the boat soon cools down and it takes a lot to get it warm again (no matter how thick your insulation is).
  16. My stove gets lit in October('ish) and will stay lit for as many months as necessary If you manage your stove properly, you close it in overnight and when you're away during the day (that gives a low level back ground heat). When you get in, open up the bottom - instant heat
