  2. 3 months later and the Mer polished cell is no different to the rest of the panel so not worth the effort of polishing the panels. I'm glad really.

  5. Strangely enough I've seen a Mastervolt 10 kW with 3 capacitors BUT 2 were 30 microfarads and 1 was a 25 microfarads all wired to the same pos and neg.
  6. Tried the lamp idea but no joy. 25 microfarad capacitors ordered, fingers crossed.
  7. Think I'll be getting a Sterling. Looks good and I need to give my new Trojans the best treatment.
  8. So a 4 foot length of scaffolding pipe filled with scrap/concrete should do the trick. I'll give it a try.
  9. Phew! You can say that again. Wow! Even more info than Adverc! Decisions decisions!
  10. Thanks. Weird how in all that info......nothing about output voltage! I'll check next time I'm aboard.
  11. I'm pretty sure it's a 160 Amp Model 8LHA2159V. The lettering on the label came off when I wiped with a cloth with white spirit on a few years (can you believe it?). The lettering on the small box (regulator?) on the back says Model 8RG2112 AMPS 7 Volts 12 200703 Measured at my Mastervolt MICC so l will measure it at the alternator terminals. I have 50mm cables running directly from the alternator to batteries
  12. Is there any way to adjust the alternator to give out the 14.8 volts that Trojan recommend for bulk charging? At the moment it gives out 14volts.
  13. Interesting, but how long is the pipe and what does it weigh? Interesting
  14. Good idea. Think (hope) that's the reason. It's a coincidence otherwise. Worth a try. Thanks.
  15. Is the avr screw there to adjust the engine speed or is that the trim screw? The batteries are new
  16. Checked fault finder for charger ...." Input voltage must be between 190 and 260v ( nominal 230v)" Could that extra 5v be the problem?
  17. Presume you mean " no output voltage" to the batteries from the charger I disconnected the cables to the batteries, turned genny on and got 14.65v output from the charger,so it ain't broken I presume. So I'm going to reconnect the batteries and see what happens. Charger started up but turned off after a minute. Just checked genny voltage.....265v!!!!!!!! Could this be the reason why the charger doesn't want to play?
  18. I'll find out! Might be tomorrow though. Thanks
  19. My Mastervolt charger won't stay on anymore ( been OK for 12 years!). The 5 diagonal Amber lights flash on and go out immediately. Any ideas?
  20. Good tip. I've always laid newspaper flat, but when you remove the sheets they always leave a damp patch behind. Your method is better.
  21. Hi. Where did you get the terminal covers from please?
  22. Three words........Timothy Taylor's Landlord!
  23. Oh well it's done now. I just thought adding a little bit of solder through the hole would create extra contact between the end of the cable, which would otherwise not be really touching the inside of the lug. It looks quite neat actually. I'll use self amalgamating tape where the cable meets the lug collar.
  24. My 70mm cabling is connecting all the batteries up. It's horizontal and lies on top of the batteries so I can't see a problem with vibration/fracturing. I crimped the lugs on then applied a bit of flux and solder in the small hole between the sleeve and the eye of the lug. Will I go to hell?
