  1. There's an advert for fuel polishing at Braunston bottom lock, by Wharf House Narrowboats, probably the nearest to you at Crick.
  2. Just 'cos there's a gauge, doesn't mean there can't be a warning light too. Have you tried ringing Beta, they are usually very helpful IME.
  3. AIUI, it's the display until and sell by dates that are proposed to be coded so as not to confuse the shopper. These dates are meant for the store only, to aid stock rotation. Use by and best before dates will still be shown. Re the smallpox, I don't blame you, but how did the jap feel about it?
  4. I was once about the middle of a convoy of 20 boats being moved from Stockton Top to Braunston in the days of the OwnerShips show. It was early Feb and sleeting, horrible weather for single handing or anything else. Near where Ventnor Farm is now, there was a single angler, hunched over his gear, waiting for us all to go by. I shouted to him "Sorry, I'm only the halfway mark. Grotty weather, isn't it?" He looked at me thoughtfully and said "You've not met the wife, have you?" Edited for typo.
  5. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  6. Isn't the Northampton Arm due to shut altogether soon for water conservation?
  7. We had our reminder about five weeks before the licence was due to expire. Mind you, they'd sent us the new disks two weeks before that… Cheers Bruce
  8. Hear, hear. This is my very first post here, but I know there's not much point asking you lot to be gentle with me. We've always found that if anything privateers are less considerate than hirers or sharers, but there's huge overlap. (And don't get me started about some hotel boats. ) My most embarrassing boo-boo in 30 odd years boating was at Foxton in the days of Mick and Crystal. I raised a paddle before Mick reckoned I should have, and he spent quite some time explaining my mistake to me. It was my first outing in our new share boat, and his final words were "You share owners, you think you're boaters, but you're just glorified hirers really!" After many happy years sharing, we moved to liveaboard eight years ago, but still tend to call share boaters glorified hirers. All done in the best possible taste, natch.
