  1. Ok, so if I go with the cheaper ones, AGM or Gel?
  2. I have 5 x 110a Newmark lead acid batteries and want to replace & upgrade to a much heavier duty battery as they are dead. These are the 2 makes that are consistently coming up and I can get to fit the existing box. I want maintenance free. Which are better?
  3. Yes it's a Thermo Top C 5.3KW. Anyone know approximately how much the 2010 models are?
  4. Unfortunately I don't have constant access to shore power, so system would need to be 12v as I wouldn't want to leave my inverter on all the time. I don't have enough battery power as yet, but that all needs upgrading as well. I have a 3000w victim & 4 x 100 A leisures, which are a bit knackered but still work (just). The webasto worked well when it did work, but it sooted up, leaked & for me just wasn't reliable enough. In total last year after fixing, it worked for 4 weeks in total of the winter. I would stick with it if I thought it would work but my best mates Webasto for years has gone wrong, plus reading on the forums, it would appear that it isn't really up to the job & dozens of people have issues with them. I want a different system,
  5. You don't even mention Kabola??? Are they not worth mentioning?
  6. Well this one is 7 yrs old. I am looking in here Tony for info on the Hurricane. I think I might go for that. Totally replace the system. Just seeing what people are saying about them.
  7. Got one of those, but I have a 70ft boat & it wasn't really enough last winter. I loved the central heating in the mornings (when it worked) as you wake up warm and with hot water.
  8. My webasto constantly broke down last winter and I dont want another winter the same. So I want to replace it. Recommendations anyone? What is the latest with central heating systems? Anything out there a bit more bulletproof?

  11. Ok lots to consider here. I thought the camera would be better higher up like even on an a ariel pole, but if they are at face level, presumably a quick coat over them and then taking them renders them useless. I have also seen bird box cameras that might be hidden. If you had one visible and one invisible???. I can't really have a dog due to work, but I think this is the best idea long term. But in the mean time, I just want deterrents really and perhaps better security locks.
  12. ok I think I am starting to get it. That one with the smart phone sounds good. I have also found this. Can anyone see any downside to this?? think this just records to hard disc and doesn't require my modem to text or contact me any movement. (I think). But it looks like it might be suitable and not require 240v. http://m.spycameracctv.com/products/wireless-dvr-infra-red-day-night-camera-sdcard-slot# I presume this is for viewing after the event , rather than being notified during.
  13. Yes I think to notify me if there is a break in, to act as a deterrent and to gather evidence. I suppose the idea of being able to check on the boat and call the police as it happens is comforting. I do have trees above the boat that I might be able to mount a camera on, though if it were motion sensitive I suppose it would go off all the time. . The problem with the sending text thing is the Internet access. Although I do have a modem it doesn't have an Ethernet port to connect the camera base to the net. Maybe jus
  14. Can anyone point me in the direction of a company who will install 12v CCTV system on my boat. I thought I had found a wireless one but it takes an Ethernet cable into my router, and it doesn't have one. I am a live aboard and the boat has twice been broken into Do I have to have it connected to Internet and is it going eat data. I was thinking more of one that records straight to a disc like a per many go pro thing with 2 /3 cameras. I don't really have a clue and want someone to work it all out for me and install it. )
  15. I read that the Trick is a bowl of vinegar with 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 tablespoons of salt. Leave the bowl out ... Bye bye waspies https://completegarden.wordpress.com/2008/09/11/bee-safe-wasp-trap-how-to-make-your-own-for-free
  16. Wow that looks really fuel efficient and good price. I have a Yamaha engine in my granny and it's brilliant, really quiet. Didnt see this one.
  17. Mine are Outside on the roof, battery operated. They work really well and run the length of the boat. But you could also have them inside a window too. The 2 solar security lights that go on if you approach the boat. They are from the solar centre and are about £40 but are brilliant, really bright and worked all winter. The Crimbo lights I like because of the timer. I have a home mooring and the boat looks occupied with the lights. My mooring is quite isolated so I need quite bright security lights and they can't annoy anyone. But the Crimbo lights look really sweet and pretty and come on at dusk.
  18. I am really enjoying both series. Wasn't impressed with that boater in Little Venice though, shouting at them. They are elderly and enjoying a holiday and they don't deserve that sort of aggressive rudeness. Doesn't give a good impression of us boaters.
  19. I came back last year to a man hidden under my pram cover (I love my pram cover, but like to choose who enters the hallowed domain). I somehow sensed he was on there, before I got on the boat and grabbed the phone and took pics). He got 3 yrs for burglary even though he didn't actually manage to get through the door, as I interrupted him. I thought it would be 'attempted burglary' but he was convicted by a jury of burglary) The boat was regarded as a dwelling and the same as a house porch. He had previous suspended sentences and was a prolific burglar, hence the 3 yr sentence. Police were excellent. I now have flashing lights that come on automatically after dark on a timer and brilliant sensor solar security lights. We have noticed alot less interested people down here after dark snipping around now the lights come on. (They are only battery Xmas lights on a timer but work really well at making the boat look occupied).
  20. There are loads available now, ready converted by the manufacturer, and covered by a warranty. . It's 60% more efficient apparently
  21. I am considering as a long term residential mooring option (with no facilities) converting a camping trailer and having an LPG generator next yo the boat. Is LPG in the same space as the genny safe? Or do they have to be in separate sections. Obviously the generator will get hot. Is there a safety issue or anything I should be aware of? I know I will have to have it cut out for ventilation. I have seen it on RVs in the US.
  22. I have a new Webasto 7 day timer and it seems to come on at totally different times that I have set! The instructions are appalling. I have set 1-8 programmes on and off. I presume it goes on auto, then what button do you press to get it all to work. The instructions say press clock. But it seems to come on at totally different times than I want it to. Keep waking up freezing with no hot water. Any one got one that they can tell me in simple terms how to get it to work properly?
