  1. Yep, you are in effect raising the humidity level, therefor as the night time gets colder you have more chance of hitting dewpoint on colder surfaces and getting condensate
  2. Dessicant dehumidifiers are better and more efficient at low temps, where as refrigerant ones unless they have pre heat coil tend to tail off on efficiency below 12c due to the evaporation temps. Also with a dessicant dehumidifier you will need either somewhere to condense te moisture removed or a flow and return to outside to remove the wet air and let the regen air back. ( if the air is only exhausted out then the boat is under negative pressure and would draw ambient air in which would then be laden with the conditions externally. Also the process of dessicant dehumidifiaction normally uses a small in built heater to dry the silica./dessicant which in turn gently warms the inside of the boat. You can put these easily on a humidistat as well, so oncethe humidity is high around 85%rh the unit will switch on and then off to the desired conditions.

  4. Dont forget new vhf dsc course starting in January is supposed to be over two days now, but can be done online.
  5. You can get a fixed marine radio and vhf antenna for approx £130nthen you gave the option of 1 or 25 watts !
  6. Cobra marine handheld about £55 these cover all the channels needed
  7. I just did the vhf dsc course, and my own personal opinion is you dont need a dsc on inland waters just a standard vhf. They can be very expensive for having the option of someone calling you direct and plotting your gps.
  8. Only problem is, that the dsc will be registered to another person or vessel and not you, so in case of emergency the wrong boat id will be given. I am just going to continue with a normal non dsc set
  9. Hi you would only get marginal heat transfer, if you could put it somewhere in shade and away from any heat source ie engine then you would get a more accurate reading. But for keeping tabs on weather they are fine
  10. Also doing an amateur foundation licence, since been looking at vhf marine didnt realise just what is and isnt sent via the airwaves.
  11. Mines about £105, few companies reckon double that next year
  12. Im doing mine in two weeks, one full day course
  13. Approximately .9litre of moisture is produced when burning 1kg of fossil based fuels i.e. gas, coal, wood
  14. You could put them in the oven at home or when you are on the boat with doors open so the moisture content evaporates out to the ambient.
  15. I believe once saturated you can dry them in the oven
  16. I have tesco contract, coverage for me in north west is a lot better than vodafone, however i have heard that orange and t mobile have or are joining forces, so if your network isnt covered by one then it piggy backs on other http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/share/?WT.mc_id=ON_QM_A_Q
  17. Hi which ham licence covers you to use these
