If a boat sinks what is needed to raise the boat, would it have to be a Crane, to lift it out and then transport it to have it repaired and at what cost
I have not bought the boat yet, but thinking about it my only concern is just having 3rd party insurance.
how many boaters have just 3rd party insurance
I know the boat and the owner,he has owned it for 30 years, he had it plated 10 years ago and now has just come out of dry dock after blacking. I also know the person who blacked it and he never saw anything obviously wrong with the boat. So do i insure it 3 party until i can get surveyed and then if and when it is ok insure it fully. Is there any people just insure there boats 3rd party
The problem I have, I am buying a boat which I know is in the lower end bracket price range. But where we are there are no places available to put it into dry dock and also with the closure of canals for a few months which makes matters worse. I could insure the boat 3rd party and then when the canals open and there is a place in dry dock book in for a survey. What do you all think
I can get 3rd party insurance without a survey but if i want fully comp insurance i need to have a survey. What are all your thoughts of only 3rd party insurance
Sorry it is a boat i am thinking of buying so i would be the new owner
The last survey was carried out and later over plated but 10 years ago so now as the owner a hull survey is needed for comp insurance or go down to just 3rd party. Is that too big a risk
What is the approx cost of a hull inspection on a narrow boat. Does anybody know of a surveyor in the North west who can survey my hull for an insurance quote.
I was walking through the Rochdale nine 2 weeks to get the feel of the place and was considering going through to do the cheshire ring. There was a boat in the lock with no water not a good place to be at night but this was afternoon and after await of 2 hrs he was on his way i talked to the couple and offered to help the lady do the locks which she was very happy with. We approached the underground lock and the lady was not happy going into as you could see two men hanging around in dark shadows we pushed our way pass and started to open the paddle but realised we would need to open the paddles on the other side but there was a further two men on that side with a small fire. The lady would not cross over and when i did the two men walked away there was dozens of needles laying on the floor we opened the gates which altogether must of taken some twenty minutes the man still on the boat and his wife out of sight all this time not knowing what was going on. They thanked me very much for my help and carried on to the Ashton canal and i walked back.
I have been told you can get help through the Rochdale nine but when i phoned CRT they said they would get back to me if they could help but have not contacted me as yet, i asked for help on the forum but no one could help so we decided not to bother there is no way i would let my wife attempt doing these locks on her own she is not strong enough and you do not know who or what these people are capable of, it is a pity she will not try and steer the boat and i could do the locks
