  1. Yes, but not everyone has twin 200hp engines on an ice cream carton !!
  2. You say you are Cheshire area, go & talk to Steve at Kings Lock Chandlery, Middlewich. I fitted my own squirrel, took the boat to him, he fabricated a flue out of steel pipe, & fitted it for just over £100, (the cost of parts for a diy join together job was more than that !) He can also give advice as they are solid fuel stove suppliers. As for an insulated flue, well, I wouldnt have one, you loose a lot of radiated heat !
  3. When I had to renew the pilling on my end of garden, lay - by mooring, I had the local BW engineer come round to check the plans, depth of pilling etc. I asked the question that if I bought my self a crane & took the boat out every time I arrived home would I need a mooring licence or mooring, his reply was no, no mooring or licence for it BUT every time I wanted to either crane in or out I would need a stoppage for effin safety reasons which would cost me over £200 each time (that was 2008 so presumably more now) I also asked about digging my own inlet, & yes you guessed, fees for "stillage" tests (to check the inlet didn't leak) & a connection charge. So decided to pay the mooring fee ! Which was about a quarter of the local Marina fees. Mind you the cost of the pilling works I wont go into as I'm still paying the mortguage on that !! PS tried to get BW to help with costs of protecting their bankside, but apparently where I am, the landowner is responsible for the bank protection, & as the water was getting behind the old rotten pilling & under the garden I had to cough up. Also when the mooring was first dug out the owner at the time had to get planning permission from the local council, but I did not as it was deemed maintenance rather than new works.

"return to Saxilby for the night" We stopped at the moorings just past the Burton Waters Marina, quiet in spite of the pub & railway. Also just a short walk by road to the marina, which has a very usefull general store for essentials like milk & papers etc. I queried the mooring situation with the Brayford Trust the reply was - With regard to your recent query, regrettably there are no visitor moorings in the Pool at the moment. However both funding and planning permission have been secured to provide new moorings for visitors in the near future. In the meantime there are temporary visitor moorings available from BWB on the Fossdyke at the entrance to the Pool Becci Linney On behalf of Brayford Trust Hope this helps.

We were there yesterday, no mooring that we could see in the basin, went through the Glory hole & turned just before the lock (we are 57' you should get a 60' round with a bit of care) & mored by the road, there is a gate by the "island" to get onto the road & only a short walk to the center. Alf PS There was a boat on the service mooring but we managed to get in to dump rubbish, hopefully its gone before you get there.
  6. Yup, all BW (or whatever it will be called by the time you do it !)
