  1. I use one on my boat to clear all water from pipes, taps and especially the Palomo water heater at times of frost. It definately won't clear the tank. I think they are expensive, but the sort of thing that you could probably make yourself but end costing loads of grief finding the right valves and fittings. You would need to add a tee and an isolator as well as an air pump of some kind to make it suitable for a boat. Alan
  2. I'm only 20 miles away, but life is a bit hectic for the next couple of months, otherwise I would happy to have a quick look to set you on the right track. IF you feel confident you might want to try disconnecting the previous owners handy work (especially the nav lights). It might do the trick!! and win you a bit of time to get everything sorted. If you can't find anyone now and can wait a little PM me.
  3. Sounds like someone has made some dubious modifications to your wiring in the past and it has now decided to fail. Proberbly a simple fault to fix, but needs a sparks. Don't waste money on new fittings get it looked at first. Let us know where you are and one of us sparks might be able to help.
  4. I suspect. you saw a bird cowl from http://smokiejoes.co.uk/ . I've had one for about a year and it is very well made. Does get some attention from my otherwise un shiney boat! Hope this helps. Alan.
  5. My boat had slotted vents with the bottles standing in water. It happily passed BSS for 25 years and I assumed all was OK. Fortunately, when I was buying it, my surveyor wealded his hammer and found a fair bit of rust. I got money off to form a higher platform and raise the vents by about 4 inches. I think it cost around £400. Alan.

  7. I don't know what the video says, but it is only a dish in a box with a motor so it won't find anything on its own and if you know how to set a normal dish a motorised dish should not be any more difficult. If the kit is any good you don't need the book. I was simply surprised that elevation was not just a tad away from vertical as it is on a normal dish.
  8. I don't know if this helps, but I can tell you how I got mine working! Only used it once just to see if it works, so I've more money than sense I suppose. The thing that surprised me is to set the elevation to about 28 degrees if I member correctly. The back of the book tells you correct figure for where you are. The next problem is pointing the handle north because the big chunk of steel called a narrow boat sends the compass mad. Then whirl the remote round to about SSE and hey presto - you find a tree in the way. Actually worked quite well with the normal proviso of a satellite dish. Have fun, and enjoy the radio in the meantime! Alan
  9. Colin - Lets keep it really simple. You have worked out that 40W at 12V is about 3.3A Well done! The bumf says 5A at 12V so take that 5A to allow for losses and then assume roughly you will take 5A from your battery every hour the TV is running. This 5A will be about the right figure if it run direct from the batteries or the inverter. You have 550A of batteries and every hour the TV is running will take 5A out of the batteries IN THEORY. In practice you wont get 550A out of one charge of the batteries but it is a rule of thumb to start with.
