  6. Thanks for that vital reminder Rob. I suspect that the CCers and liveaboards are much better prepared than us leisure boaters. I tend to have many different crews (family/friends) at different times. I do try to go through the basics before every trip, because crew who have'nt been lately will tend to have forgotten over time. Don't want it to get like aircraft though, where regular travellers seem to think it clever to ignore the safety instructions. brian
  7. No probs at all - it was put there for questioning and comment. Brian
  8. I imagine most boaters will be relieved that it has now been decided that CaRT will be subject to the Freedom of Information Act. However a brief phrase qualifies that by saying it is only "IN RELATION TO ITS STATUTORY DUTIES". But the activities of BW/CaRT go far beyond statutory duties, like its marinas and property developments etc. It therefore seems there will be large and important areas of activity where there will be no requirement to answer any questions at all. It seems quite worrying that CaRT will not be fully accountable under FOI Act. Brian

That is utterly disgraceful and very alarming for democracy. Brian
  10. Presumably will need to change the insurance too? Brian
  11. Well, I guess I must be an idiot. I have my automatic bilge pump always connected, by passing the master switch. So which risk is greater? An electrical fault or sinking? Seems like I cannot avoid both. brian

BW is a public body. CaRT will be a charity, not a public body. Brian
  13. Its called The Cross Guns. If room, moor immediately before the aquaduct, otherwise as soon as poss after, although tow path will then be on the other side. But you can walk back and under the aquaduct to the pub. Very highly recommended. Brian
  14. But remember the Bath bottom lock is closed indefinitely. You can however wind after the first lock. Brian
  15. I agree and would strongly recommend looking at ex-hire boats for that sort of accommodation. Often better maintained too. I bought my 60 ft cruiser stern ex-hire for that sort of money last year, and its got loads more equipment and storage than that shown on yours. It is 1990, separate twin and double bedrooms, two pump-out toilets, shower, c/h, morco multi-fuel stove, 1600 watt inverter, modern 42 hp Isuzu engine, 5 domestic + 1 starter batteries, mid galley with lots of cupboard space, smaller lounge but can convert to another double bed if wanted, all the beds and lounge seating have large drawers/cupboards under, 2 full length wardrobes, and 4 floor standing cupboards, large storage area under the front deck. And so on! I found better value boats on Midlands and Northern waterways than on Southern as well. I don't live aboard, but I have been delighted with my ex-hire boat. Brian
