  2. I did have the pleasure of a narrow boat before I bought my widebeam so I have had the best of both worlds. I love the historic boats and the sound of a vintage engine but for me still working my living space was important so when I was looking to buy I bought a 60x 10 WB. No regrets at all. Wouldn't want it any wider as it's just right for me and where I cruise. If I want to do more narrow canals I will happily hire.

  4. Fingers crossed all goes well tomorrow. A real cliffhanger. Good luck.
  5. I'm in sales too so understand the frustration that they must feel but that's all part of the job. We only looked at one boat but walking around it just seemed chaotic with lots of folk confused about how to get on to see the boats. The couple I was with had been asked by the company to go to see something specific on a boat they have ordered. Luckily when I bought my boat I wandered round a few brokerages then went directly to the boat builder who had plenty of time to discuss everything. Hope you got the answers you wanted regarding portholes.....
  6. We went on Saturday. It was squelchy ( love that word) underfoot. Unfortunately my car, Audi A4 couldn't cope with the mud so the parking guys just directed us down a lesser used row of cars to park. IMO the rows of cars were too close together considering the conditions. On the whole I enjoyed my first boat show but I do think that the companies showing the boats need to have better system as no one acknowledged we were there waiting for about 10 mins. If I was looking to buy a boat I would not have been impressed.
  7. Oh no... heartfelt hugs sent. Every boaters nightmare. I hope theres not too much damage or stuff stolen.
  8. I use Spidergone. Sprayed it around the mushrooms, doors and windows last spring and no spiders. Ive sprayed lockers too so no horrible surprises. I also did the water/lecky bollard on our mooring and no spiders there either.
  9. Well said Richard and thanks for doing the redacted version

  11. Hi, yes I live on my boat and have a Westie. I've been living aboard for 2 years and George is now nearly 16 yrs old. He has adapted very well but its a big boat and he's a little dog. He doesn't mind the engine and has only fallen in once ( that was at 11pm at night and he just missed the stern) Luckily he did swim but it was cold and dark and I panicked more than him. I work full time but have a dog walker who takes him out twice a day leaving me to do first thing in the morning and in the evening. Sorry about the loss of yours and Martin's dogs. Louise Edit to add photo of George in his favourite place......
  12. If all that money is owed to Mr Steadman why would he continue to do business with Paul Lillie?
  13. River Canal Rescue. It's the AA/ RAC equivalent. River Canal Rescue. It's the AA/ RAC equivalent.
  14. Now that is funny. - greenie we'll deserved.
  15. [quote name="Help at hand" post= "The publicity has majorly benefited the Boat House restaurant which continues to thrive even in this economic crisis plus the boat and boat hire and apartment rentals have also continued to increase immensely." I'm glad that this part of the business has thrived but what a shame that this "immense increase" couldn't have helped him supplement the portion of the moorings fee that the boaters paid him so that he could pay CRT. Without the marina and the boats how many people do you think would visit a restaurant in a field.
  16. They have removed it from their page now ....
  17. I've been looked at too. Just going to put some lippy on incase the police call.
  18. It was funny Shyster .... I do have a thought though for John Lillie. It must be awful for him and his wife to see the dream that they had regarding this marina end like this. Never mind the devastation to his family. Louise
  19. Opps. Posted too soon ...... I think you must be one of the 2 boaters PL ranted about in his FB message, if so you would know more about his dealings then us. Hope you are happier where you now moor.
  20. Ally, I agree. I'd like to see a pic of all the mods dressed in the red uniforms though. LOL When I looked to moor at Pillings I was potentially one of the moorers who was going to part with over 10K to secure a long term mooring. If I had done that I can only imagine the confusion I would now face. Mr Lille has said that the holding company is going into liquidation earlier in this thread, someone else has commented that there is to be a meeting at the marina on Friday to discuss things. Yes I'd be confused, yes I would have handed over a lot of cash - the dilemma is would I wait to see if the new company honoured my already paid monies and could they sort out an agreement with CART. I feel for moorers trapped in this situation. I think that there are happy folks moored there when you read the FB page but all this vileness from a manager of a marina would not make me wish to stay. I have said before that having met him on several occasions to discuss buying a boat, mooring there and when I attended an open day I found his manner and approach quite duplicitous. The marina could be lovely, it could be there with boaters at the forefront but he is just there to make money - look at his costs for pump out etc.
  21. Using the rationale Mr Lillie makes regarding the agreed repayment (which he would have been aware of before signing) I wonder how flexible or reasonable he would be if a moorer who had signed a mooring agreement said they were unable to pay the mooring fee agreed as due to "market forces" they weren't able to pay the full amount but could pay a reduced amount. Looking at the FB post earlier on I guess I know the answer...... When I looked for a mooring Pillings was on my short list but after meeting with him, the things he said just didn't add up. Luckily I chose Mercia which was slightly more expensive but with a management team that put boaters first IMO. Reading his comments on here have confirmed my decision.
  22. Ian's original post was because I reverse into my mooring. In doing so the tiller is hard to the right meaning that I am a distance from the controls and taking account of the wind etc where you do need to go forwards and reverse I can't always reach the gears so Ian does it. We were wondering how other people manage with that particular manoeuvre. I don't find it an issue when generally steering it and I'm happy to let the tiller go on occassions. Thanks for all the comments though. Louise
  23. John, I echo with what Leo No2 says...... Very sad situation especially when one person was trying to help someone else. My thoughts and praters are with the family and friends of these 2 guys.
  24. Stop coming out on my boat and making me realise a fault ....... Do what I do - have you there to control the gears xx LOL
