And 9600,1,no.... think I still have an 'interfaker' in the loft, although I very much doubt I can remember how to use it... mind you there's nowt around with 232 on these days...

I'd like to see job but it did look remarkably good. I actually thought he come over as a bit of an arse, but wouldn't be surprised if he/she was a nicer in real life.

I'm in a similiar situation. Why not connect the solar direct to lithiums 'cos that's where you want its output. Assuming a victron they have a li setting and/or can be configured appropriately. Alternator to LA start and dc to dc to charge lithium from alternator, allowing control of the charge current out of the alt. See comments from Nick about trickle charging of start battery. If you only have a single alternator then connect that to LA starter and dc to dc from there to big ol bank (Li). This will protect your alternator. I would use a victron dc to dc to charge the girly button batteries. (LA)

Yes you could be right but I thought your answer covered that off π -
Storage/maintenance along the Leeds Manchester canal
jonathanA replied to Ian221's topic in Boat Building & Maintenance
The obvious place near you is Scarisbrick marina, not sure if one of the MMBC moorings would have anywhere suitable or if they would allow it. I have a vague recollection there was somewhere near Wigan where boats have been lifted in/out before. I must have read that on here so might be worth doing a search and dig through some of the old threads. -
Special tools ? The only tools I need to fit frog spawns are a nut rounder to nip up or remove the posts and a 13mm for the 8mm bolts. I guess frog spawn are assuming a degree of mechanical aptitude from their customers and rightly or wrongly dont think a shaved gorilla is going to be swinging from the end of a 20mm spanner or wrench. That said they should be a bit clearer about not over tightening but then who reads the install instructions anyway.... I still think it's been worthwhile of @blackrose to post his experience - Thanks

Connecting Victron negative to boatβs shell

Wow I think that must be every product in victrons inventory π Galvanic corrosion needs you to be connected to a mains shoreline and if you are you need the galvanic isolator as shown on the diagram. (OR an isolation transformer as not shown π) -

I think he's actually looking for someone able to crane out the boat load it and move to the farmers field and unload it again... @Ian221 what is the size is your boat? A smaller nb might be able to lifted onto a flatbed with hiab, a larger craft will require a crane and truck. A grp cruiser might go on a trailer. You will also need somewhere for it to be lifted out that the crane /truck can access. -
i think its useful to alert folks to this, but i would respectfully suggest that its better that bit broke than the thread stripped in the battery or the metal insert in the battery case started to move and perhaps you might have been a tad over enthusiastic ? Possibly that recess is designed precisely as a mechanical fuse for that reason ? I think the posts can be helpful if you have a couple of connections to get on the terminal as it allows you to turn one crimp over and fit them 'back to back' under the bolt, bit harder to do straight onto the battery top sometimes. Otherwise unless your using crappy terminal clamps then Gumpy makes a good point.

Sewage will be pumped into the Manchester Ship Canal

is that the case? My understanding is that the developer has to persuade the water company to 'adopt' the new sewage system - i don't think they can connect up willy nilly.... The water companies are also required to comment at the planning stage and presumably can ask for planning conditions to be imposed. in any case the Water company will no doubt be delighted to collect the charges from the new properties and presumably they can use this to fund increases to their infrastructure. The issue might be under investment and/or short term thinking but thats been a British disease since accountants took over... I knew someone would say that and i guess its a fair point, but do you think having a water meter means you can ignore a hose pipe ban then? do you get a reduction in your standing charge? does the charge per Cubic Metre of water get reduced....? pretty much a win win for the water companies then.... I choose not to have a water meter at home for a number of reasons not least being i don't have to, although i do have water meters elsewhere. -

Interesting. I've not dealt with them for a while so why are you no longer recommending them? (PM if you prefer) Doh! I had forgotten about the lock closure. Still it's raining so maybe they will reopen soon.... we can but hope! Tarleton is a good call. -

Have you tried Crooke marina?. I've no idea if they have hard standing but worth a try. Otherwise botany Bay at chorley springs to mind. -

And don't forget they've had above inflation price rises and continue to allowed to increase prices "to fund investment" It's scandalous and now we are being told to there is a drought so need to use less of their product... but I'm not seeing any reduction in my bill for using less... -
My oil changes never take so long that I need a tea break. Perhaps it's an age thing π I prefer to get the sump plug out leave the warm oil draining whilst I get on with changing air, fuel filters etc. The last thing I do before putting fresh engine oil in is refit the sump plug.

I just drilled some holes and tapped them, 6mm brass set screws job done.... Panels have never moved or blown off...
-
I thought it was something a bit different so they'd all come for a gander....
-
The last Mercedes I had didn't have a dipstick at all (well apart from the driver)... you had to check the oil level via a menu and the instrument display.
-
Well whatever it is, it looks a nice enough cruiser. Enjoy! π

Does the flue sit inside or outside the collar on the stove ? If outside then I think the rust is stuff running down, although id expect to see tar and orrible gunge too. Looks a bit more than just surface rust, can rain be getting in around the roof collar and running down?

9 out of 10 cats prefer to think the breather maybe blocked.... OP is investigating whether there is a breather and whether its blocked. π
-
When you open the filler do you get a "whoosh" as air enters it? Sounds like a blocked or non-existent breather. Maybe try leaving the filler cap a bit loose so it's not an airtight seal and see if that makes a difference.

Usually just needs the ignition on. Although my old tractor with a mechanically driven tacho works on a sort of average rpm for time basis.

There are or were a few metal ones tucked under the balance beams on some of the L&L locks- can't remember which lock flights. But if you know you can see the marks in the concrete and check under the balance beams. I'm not talking about the locks where the props are physically attached to beams (Wigan flight ISTR)

This seems to be especially the case if the significant other has some sort of mobility issue, has had a recent new knee, hip or is waiting for a new hip/knee π€£ whenever ive asked I'm often told "oh no if I scratched the paint on the lock HE would go mad..." SWMBO helms in locks (because she does have mobility issues) and claims to be better at it than me... and she probably is. the cheeky lad on a hire boat that she deliberately rammed up the backside when sharing locks soon learnt to treat her with respect....
