  3. Actually it is part of a cycle lane on the pavement. about 1 mile of it, alongside the park, no houses that side of the road. but coming down that hill I would be on the road because you can get up to 25mph easily without pedalling, that would be dangerous on the cycle lane cuz it isn't wide enough for that speed, especially with pedestrians in the way
  4. You forgot about the World of Warcraft trolls. I assure you he doesnt have a hairy arse
  5. I have a heavy duty top of the range mountain bike. I hate having to say "excuse me" so I fitted a bell instead (it didnt come with 1), yet a large proportion of pedestrians cant hear you because of their headphones. Every other cyclist with the same kind of bike takes the mickey cuz I have a bell (& mudguards & super bright led lights). I'll always slow down & ride appropriately & be polite, yet I had 1 boater try to push me in the canal cuz I rode over 1 of his ropes that was fully accross the tow path. Swings & roundabouts, some people will behave, some are arseholes. Most recently I got a load of abuse from another cyclist coming the other way at high speed (on a pavement in town), I went to my left, he went to his right, he went even further right, he hit a tree. Now he reckons he's gonna get me. Good luck with that I'm no shrinking violet, him hitting the tree serves him right. Then about 2 mins later a taxi jumped the lights while I was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing, beeping his horn at me for being in the way... Taxi no 98 has been reported yet again.
  6. Lol, Crick internet is rubbish. I'm not talking about the marina though, I wouldnt know about that. Last week I caught a bus to Crick to go look at a boat (which it turned out wasnt there). Anyway when I'd finished I had just missed the bus back, so I had to wait an hour for the next one. No problem, I propped myself up against the lampost, pulled the headphones out of my pocket & plugged them into my phone, & got ready to listen to some music. Seconds later I had to swat my leg, like you do when a fly lands on you just in case it's a mosquito. A couple of seconds later I had to swat it agin... & then again & again & again until I'm jumpin around like a demented idiot flapping my arms all over the place. I turns out there was a red ants nest exactly at the lampost & they was all coming out running up my leg & biting/stinging (whatever it is they do) like mad. Eventually things calmed down because I moved away, & turned my attention back to my phone. Now I'm used to getting a pretty poor signal where I live, but it is still good enough usually to watch TV on my phone over the phone networks internet, & so it would expect to be able to listen to music which is far less data. But the signal there was so poor that I could only get 3 seconds of music every 2 minutes. So basically I had a very boring wait for the bus back home, & I never got to see the boat I wanted to see (although I did see 1 which hadnt been listed that really floats my boat... just want a "yes" answer from the bank now)
  7. This thread is hilarious! Did I accidently stumble onto the WoW forums???
  8. Hi, I'm looking to buy an NB. I need finance on the boat. What is a good company to use please. I've only done a quick google & top of the list was Royscot Larch. Dunno if I can get a loan, but basically there are 2 of us. 1 of us will get the boat loan (hopefully) replacing a monthly rent of £325 with a boat loan of £285 per month (based on 75% loan over 10 years for a £30k boat) we have the deposit. The other 1 will be replacing £325 rent (different place) with £190 mooring fee + river/canal licence.
  9. Lol, hopefully he'll be just as happy when some narrowboat hating person comes along & drills a few holes in his hull while he's not looking

  15. Northampton Becketts Marina. Man rescued from canal. I hope they are ok Northampton Chronicle & Echo
  16. It's not my boat, I'm still a landlubber. Thats by Morrissons & near the entrance to Becketts Park Marina. I'm pretty sure the owners were there taking photos. I would imagine they will be staying there, the flow is pretty stong & the red flag is out.
  17. The River Nene at Northampton is pretty full. Apparently it will be full up by midnight. UPDATE : Heavy rain over recent days has resulted in significant flows in the River Nene. The flood storage area at Northampton is expected to fill before midnight on Sunday 25 November. After this time considerable flooding of the floodplain along the River Nene valley is now expected. Yesterday I tried to go along the River Nene, I got as far as the railway bridge which was under about 3feet of water. Under the Towcester Road was already under about 2ft of water. According to Facebook this bit has now burst its bank. The river near Becketts Park Marina is already full up, with a strong flow. This is the highest I have seen it apart from the 98 floods. Apparently if it goes up another 6inches they' re gonna set the flood sirens off. 1st image Southbridge flood of 98 Southbridge today 25 Nov 2012 & looking toward Becketts Park Marina The lock outside Becketts Park Marina Just past the lock outside Beckettts Park Marina heading downstream

  19. Perhaps too many peeps viewed his post, failed to see his licence, & took his advice
  20. I cycle, I ride a motorbike, I drive a car. Still trying to get a NB but the bankers stole all my money. I have been run over twice while walking, by cars, neither of whom stopped. I have been knocked off my motorbike by 8 cars & 1 bus, 9 written off motorbikes & 2 lengthy stays in hospital. None of the cars stopped. I have been knocked off my bicycle by cars more times than I can remember, none of the cars have ever stopped. I once crashed my motorbike while avoiding a cycling road race (on public roads, not closed) who pulled out on me when I had right of way, perhaps I should have just ploughed into them. I've been knocked off by a pedestrian (a kid) who ran into the road into me, too late to avoid, I was left unconcious in the gutter, I awoke to see him put in the back of an ambulance, I called for help but was ignored. Broken arm for me. I recently cycled 3 miles to my nearest Halfords, 734 cars didnt give me the required amount of room when passing me, most of them were speeding. Only 2 cars & 1 lorry gave me the right amount of room when passing. Whilst approaching a pedestrian crossing, 3 15 yo lads (walking) genuinely thought I didnt have to stop because I was on a bicycle, they had a green man I had a red light. I've had fishermen not get their rods out of the way, most it seems would rather block the towpath, & then get angsty when you jump over their poles... mmm perhaps I should ride over them instead of jumping them. I've had 4 people get off a NB & physically stop me 'cuz they object to bicycles, until 1 of them recognised me as being the Vice Chairman of a local motorcycle club & said that I was ok. I will ride fast if there is no one around, I have a bell on my bike, I will ride on the pavement, I've seen a guy killed riding on the road at the same time a copper was trying to arrest me for riding on the path (after 3 warnings) but they wouldnt do anything about the cars speeding & passing too close, which is why I was riding on the path... I've been knocked off by a woman in a car who didnt stop, who I managed to catch up with, the police refused to attend, she said I wobbled into her, 12 years later the same woman got locked up for hit & run on a cyclist who died. Most peeps dont obey the law & are inconsiderate, & the police dont enforce it. In fact nearly everybody I come across is selfish & does something wrong. I dont wear lycra. Every bicycle I've ever owned has been stolen, despite using a hefty motorbike lock. They dont need to widen the towpaths, just put some woodchip on the bits that get/are really muddy. I hate the way they've tarmacced most of the towpaths near me (& are working on the rest). I can always stop within the bit I can see.
  21. Marmite works for me, smoking doesnt seem to stop them, nor does garlic (maybe I dont eat enough of that). Being drunk seem to encourage them.
  22. Just like to add, I would also like to see Tapatalk enabled on this forum. If any of the admin are techy, take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/ It's all about modding android phones... But they have a free app which is basically tapatalk for their forum only, tapatalk is a premium app, there isn't a free version to try. Tapatalk is available for android & iOS Tapatalk offer a free plugin for forum owners so that you can enable us to use tapatalk on your forum
