  1. Funny that- my MALE other half has never fetched me paracetamols and a cold beer- whereas I'm an expert in tea making and know the exact location of the fridge (containing cold beers) on the boat. He does make me a coffee every morning- does that count????

  6. What about a Flag with the Forums logo- I'd like one of those
  7. Hi I did come across a company called "Escape the rat race" who do long term rental- they have a website. Good luck. I have no connection with the company, so it isnt a reccomendation, just something I've seen advertised
  8. Hi- Does anyone know where I can buy a 4and half inch diameter NB chimney- everywhere I've looked so far only has 6"- Thanks
  9. Are you in shardlow marina on the Trent ? we are- but the boats at Kegworth at the moment being painted- should be back in 2-3 weeks- itching to get back on her- we only bought her last September, so really looking forward to getting out and about this year. We arent liveaboard but hope to be there most weekends and booked a few weeks off work so far so we can go a bit further.
  10. Hello- Just wanted to explain that I'm not a nutter- I seem to have sent friend requests without knowing it- If you receive one and wonder who I am, I'm not crazy just crap with Technology However as a relative Newbie- It feels nice to have a couple of friends on here- even if we havent met. Is there a way of identifying boats of other forum members (window stickers etc). It would be good to stop and say hello. We're based in Shardlow on Woodstock- feel free to wave and have a chat- and hope at some point to meet some of you at a Banter this year.. plus- If anyone in the area wants to join a meet up in the summer for a few drinks and sharing of a few tales- it would be great- we're still absorbing everyones advice and experiences- the more the better and we've met some great people so far Cheers Jackie P
  11. Hi- we bought our first narrowboat last year, called Woodstock, 37foot, made by DA Watts and Sons 1990. I've got basic info from Jim Sneads site but I'm curious if anyone knows any history as I cant find any other boats made by this builder- Was it a one off commission? and why didnt they make any more. She's being painted and last week we pulled off some filler from the roof and found an old chimney plate at the stern, suggesting that at one time she was reverse layout. We believe she's been moored in Nottingham and Sawley in the past. She also had a curious paint job with what looks like a long red arrow down the length of the roof.
  12. we tried to do it last year from Shardlow in a weekend- and made good progress until we had to stop because of the weed- it was so thick that our dog thought it was grass and jumped in. It wont be anywhere near as bad now. Let us know how you get on as we hope to retry soon. We're based at the old marina in Shardlow- might see you around some time. We did hear some stories of kids who throw stones at boat windows- but we didnt have any problems during the part we did
  13. There's a company called Escape the rat race, which have a website. They had a boat in Uxbridge- not sure if they have any available
  14. Thanks for the replies- you've really helped
  15. Hi- we have a small narrowboat and would like a small table for dinner and working on the computer. I've seen some wall mounted drop down ones from Amazon and IKEA. I've also seen on a hire boat before, one that had an aluminium frame that could be adjusted up and down and also the wooden top folded down What options are available and can you reccomend any suppliers?
  16. fascinating photos- must admit it would have frightened me to death- but it seems you've made massive progress- really looking forward to seeing more photos and the completed result- How much longer do you estimate it will take?
  17. Real shame- I stopped there last year for a few things and they were really helpful
