  8. Thanks. Yes it is exciting! nothing wrong with our current boat but we wanted a little bit more room. so going from 45foot to 58foot We sort of didn't plain to buy a new boat. but was looking through towpath talk last month and found her, so went to have a look because we kept going back to look at the pics. so as she wasn't to far away from where we moor we went to have a look!
  9. Happy to say that we have had an offer accepted on a new (not new but new to us) boat. So in a few weeks once a few jobs have been done to her we should be able to collect her. And the our current boat will be up for sale.

I have an English Bull Terrier and he loves boating! down side for him is he definately cannot swim as we found out when he fell off. and he also has trouble getting on and off so has to been lifted on and off. Hes 25kilos which is just about manageable but some of them came weigh upto 40kilos But the plus sides are that he is short haired and happy to sleep most off the day. which can be very handy if having a busy day.
  11. When boaters tell me they are on a hire boat i always say is it your first time? and are you enjoying yourself? Thats about it really unless im asked any questions then i try to answer as best i can, after all ive only been boating for 17 years so still have things to learn!

    Boater dogs

I have a cage at home for My Tig, He loves it he also has another bed that he can use if he wants to or he can be on the chair or sofa. More often he can be found in his cage by his own choice and the door is not closed. I also board dogs at home for a living and the cage is helpful when my boarders are coming into Tigs house, he goes in his cage whilst the dogs come in and have a look round and settle down before they have to deal with my rather playfull dog. Most of the dogs that i board have cages at home as well which makes things safer when i have to leave them alone in the house, they all go to their own cages and i know they are happy and safe. I dont feel that any of them suffer from being in their cage!
  13. We passed a boat with an OWL on earlier this year. and no it wasn't stuffed

Our English Bull Terrier deffinatley can not swim. He does not use his back legs for some reason he fell of the back of our old boat once and just went under came up again then went back down, you could see the panic in his eyes and it was a very frantic time to get him back onboard. We had only had him for 3 weeks and thought for a moment that he would drown! It was very scary and not something we ever want to go through again. I got him a life jacket but he hates it and once on he will not move at all, which is not very nice for him. So we keep him on his harness and lead when he's on the back of the boat. At least we know that he's safe and happy! That was nearly 4 years ago and he still loves his boating but he is now going blind so this brings other challenges for him.

Tig loves being on the boat, this is him on his first trip! in 2010 we had only had him for 3 weeks.
  18. I have hired from ashby boats a long time ago before we brought our own, And we were also very happy with there service and the boat itself. Just to echo the above posts!
  19. Hi, I had a share in a shared ownership boat for about 4 years and it worked really well. it meant i could spend more time on the cut without spending lots of money! the average cost per year for me was between £1,000 and £1,500 which for 4 weeks a year boating is good value for money as you can spend that on just one week sometimes. After our 4 years we decided to buy our own boat as we had a bit more time available to spend on the boat and wanted to be able to use when we wanted like weekends etc. I think its a great way to get more time boating but you wont always be able to go when you want! Oh and i brought my share for £3,000 and sold it 4 years later for £2,500 hope that helps
  20. I have a trad stern boat, our dog normally stays just inside the engine room so hes still with us but out of the way. sometimes he comes right up the back so he can have a look round then goes back again. he is always keep on his harness and lead is attached to the boat as he cant swim! I dont really think he gets in our way and i love having up the back with us.

    Which dog?

We have an English Bull Terrier, hes great on the boat as he sleeps most of the day and night, loves walkies on the towpath and loves meeting all the other dogs and people. the down side with him is getting on and off the boat can be a bit tricky as hes not the most agile of dogs and he cannot swim as we found out when he fell off the back one day. he does a very good sink!
  22. Always nice to meet a fellow bullie owner! she sounds just the same as my Tig. he hasn't managed to do a bullie shuffle on the boat either. the only problem we have is that he can not swim and hates his life jacket! He does a very good sink! though as we found out when he fell of the back, so now he stays attached to his harness when on the back just incase!
  23. My inlaws brought there dog on board for a weekend and he was fine with the boat which was quite a surpise as he is very nervous about a lot of things, but he loved it
  24. our boat is normally cool inside even if really hot outside so no problem with leaving them inside. I like your profile pic! Do you have an English Bull Terrier? we have a male brindel and white called Tig, he loves the boat as his bed is there!
  25. 24th Feb 2011, collecting the keys to our new (to us) narrow boat.
