Thanks for the replies all of them have been usefull, the state of play is this, the creighton 7 k, have to replace sea toilet and buy new cassette, 500 quid or so, but that should be it, rest looks fine, wont take it out of the water for ante foul on the advice seen here [that was plan a] so result is 7.5k for what seems unseen nice boat, its 28ft wth sun deck at back, with diesel engine, however then saw a Nauticus 27 foot with new diesel, only 4.5k flush toilet installed, although think electrics may need some work, so decision is get the better or cheaper, like the crighton lay out better to have friends to stay, and sure will have to spend some money on it, the Nauticus will need a few bob spent to get it for more than a day boat as it has been used, but have a 8 k budget but dont have to spend it,so still things to think about.will find out tomorrow. Other thing I could need advice when I looked at insurance quote, it asked about needing to be out the water if'' over 30yrs old and more than 23' in length for full survey within last 5 yrs'',so plan'A' with creighton is negated so will have to get that done with extra cost, as the Nauticus has recently been out of water, for antefoul. So lots to think about and ask about. Any advice or thoughts welcomed. Going tomorrow hopefully to see.

Thank you for all comments. So decision is buy it for 7 , it has the sun deck at back,so unseen all is well, not going to do the survey if everything seems ok.Now , i go this week ,we agree the sale, I get paperwork,[a trail] last bill of sale and fill in a new bill of sale, he has i d home addy paperwork, driving licence or passport. So far so good[possibly]now I want the sea toilet changed to a cassette type,so toilet 350 ish, how much to get marina to fit it you reckon?, plus does not have a shower, how much to sort that, I know how long is piece of string etc, looking for ball park figure, obviously want toilet sorted first ,but if best to get both done together will do that , or wait till get home mooring to sort shower at leisure, what you think?and how much am i looking at. any ideas comments appreciated.

Hi, Have offered 7 k for a 70's Creighton, question is, when i look at it is there really any point in getting a survey,i understand a nb but a cruiser isnt the same, or am i wrong
  15. Bit weird but pay for a mooring, or continuously cruise, option three is do neither and do as you please and pay nothing into the system, why should you...
  16. People should vote with their feet, privatise the network, those that have worked all their lives and have been rewarded for working hard by getting some money should be able to use the network and pay into it, why allow the canal to become a council estate, there should be someone on cart to have the bollocks to ban freeloaders,it has been reinvested as a tourism attraction, not a trailer park
  17. I am in the search for a cruiser boat for a couple of years use, some come with a sea toilet, the last two i have asked is there a holding tank and both have said there is no need''[its all organic after all]''unfortunately there is scum on the canals
  18. I think that people should only be able to stay in marinas, unless they pay to go out and about,,cos the livaboards ruin the system row after row of selfish livaboards particularly in that area i HAVE BEEN THERE, water gypsies.I have the money fair enough but if i didnt I wouldnt expect favours from everyone else expecting them to help me, go to work get a job pay foryourselves, stop blotting the landscape

Well that ent a bit off topic after thr first three answers lol, but anyway, think I got my answer there that, I need to ask if it has a sea toilet, then does it have a holding tank, then, if so, would be what im looking for to use regularly on the canal system.Thanks.

Boats for sale with sea toilets, which advertise -boat safe for cruising rivers, canals and off shore ,how do they cope with extended canal use,can these toilets be used somehow, apart from abuse of the rules,is there an adaption to pumpout or what do theydo as I'D be interested but only want one for canal use, any sensible advice appreciated.
  21. Thanks , gives me a bit more confidence.
  22. cheers, just dont want to buy something that is hiding problems
  23. On another thread I am asking about advice about buying a cruiser,I have only had experience of hardy narrowboats,I think I steer quite well, but ,some people disagree,They say I occasionally hit lock entrance walls /bridge entrances, if they are right, how hardy are non steel narrowboats to occasional mistakes..?
  24. Now looking at a Creighton Cruiser 28 ft. with 6'10" beam ,I notice the bottom has been painted would that be of concern, what questions would you be asking..how is osmosis asessed, how much is a survey on a boat like that, what am I to be concerned about buying off a private listing.Any advice / thoughts greatfully recieved. The op has been sold
