  1. Hi, I'm afraid not, I didn't mention the Adverc Alternator controller because I've unplugged it, the ECM is just the monitor. It started reading a higher voltage after I had replaced the regulator so bought another one but just the same.It was an easy job just 3 bolts, Could I have upset anything else? John b
  2. Thanks for replies normal open wet cell batteries in use but haven't measured the current yet. I have an Adverc ECM fitted and also double checked taking readings at the Alternator B+ terminal and the battery terminals with a multi meter all register 14.7v. I haven't travelled to far while this potential problem exists so don't know whether batteries will get warm (don't like the idea of potentially damaging them). John b.
  3. I have an Isuzu 35hp engine with 2 70amp Prestolite(lucas A127 look-alikes), they are independant of each other one charging the starter battery and the other one charges a domestic bank of 3 110 amp batteries. What I am concerned about is the domestic alternator over the 1st ten minutes of running creeps up and stabilises at 14.7volts. I have changed the regulator but as made no difference, is there anything else in the alternator that could cause this problem? It never used to go above 14.4volts so am worried my batteries could be damaged. Thanks John b.
  4. Hi, Same problem on The Lanky, there were so many complaints a year or so ago that B.W. wrote to all boat owners licensed on the canal requesting boats to slow down cruisers and narrowboats alike. We do point out to some cruisers that their water skier has fallen off but to be fair a few narrowboats are just as bad. John b
  5. Hi, We also did it clockwise we really enjoyed it. If you decide to go anti-clockwise the Audlem flight by wash can be a bit fierce but otherwise ok john b
  6. We often moor where mooring rings are provided (good pubs) but due to the length of boat we can only use one, so have to use a mooring pin for the stern. The grounds very soft so as the centre rope corresponds with a ring we usually use it as a backup if, the pin comes out. As blackrose suggests we leave it slack, its all about commonsense really. Locks

Hi, When is it usually recommended to engage reverse when entering a lock, when your well in or maybe when the bow is just through the open gate? John b.
  9. Hi Ange, Think I passed you moored in Garstang last night, while there give The Royal Oak a try, good Robinson's beer and good food. Hosteleries are a bit thin on the ground until you reach Galgate unless you walk to the A6 from Radcliffe Wharfe (good moorings) also just before bridge 74, no gangplank req'd. Regards, Johnb.
  10. Hi, We've not gone on our travels this year (moving to a lodge in Garstang) so we'll be about so count us in. you won't need your gang plank at Galgate!!! Johnb
  11. Went up the Caldon last year,we could see the potential but we found it very overgrown and short of some t.l.c. from B.W. If you're a 4ft pigmy with a 4ft wide boat enjoy! Beware of the blowpipes poking out of the bushes. John b
  12. I to have the same problem, also the rev counter sometimes goes haywire. If it was a Toyota they would all be recalled, whats the difference? John b.
  13. After removing all traces of bitumen and derusting would fibreglassing the tank with say 3coats of 1.5 oz matting be feasible, this would hopfully then be a permanent job. I'm not sure whether a protective coat of paint maybe required (any comments?) Anybody tried it. johnb.
  14. How about fitting an Axiom propeller dont they reduce wash?
  15. Hi, Does anyone know the tunnel times for Salterton and Preston Brook for a northward passage? Many thanks.
  16. Hi, A friend of mine is waiting to bring a boat back over the Ribble link but can't get a crossing till the middle of Sept. I would urge anybody who will not be using their booking to inform B.W. so somebody else can use the booking I think anybody not cancelling will incur a £10 fine john b.
  17. Hi, 20 boats arriving at Tarleton should be quite interesting but the Lancaster is well worth the effort, I'll say hello if I see the flags john b
  18. Hi all, On the Shroppie this weekend, after my wife had trudged round another lock to shut the double bottom gates she asked me why do we have these double gates and not just a single one. Embarrassingly I had to say I dunno. Who's going to be the first clever one to tell us?
  19. Hi Hi, Use your female charm with one of the many boatbuilders advertising in the monthly mags. with your old one as a template it shouldn't be much of a problem. John b
  20. Hi, the tacho on my Isuzu 35 is also intermittantly erratic. Has anyone come up with a solution? I suspect the fault lies with the Tacho itself, but am not splashing out on a new one until it completely packs up. Anyone any ideas? John B
  21. As anybody already fitted one of these Axiom thingies if so be brave and post your observations. John b.
  22. Just walked passed your boat with our black lab. We are also moored on Billings Flash having come in the opposite direction to you. We stopped at Anderton boat lift last night, Lymm Thursday, Worsley Wednesday, (was OK but a bit noisy with motorway traffic), Parbold Tuesday - excellent, just moor under the bridge. Locks at Wigan dreadful - perhaps your guests could help!! All journeys easily achieveable - hope this helps. John.B
  23. Not a good day. Left Parbold at 8.00am in the rain. Had problems at the 2 locks around Wigan FC ground - these must be the worst maintained locks on the system! Not surprisingly the 2 locks by the BW offices are perfect (Wife's comment - you weren't the one struggling to close the very heavy new lock doors). Arrived at the Moorings pub at Boothstown, where we moored last year and enjoyed a pretty good meal, only to find it closed down. Continued to Worlsey thinking we would visit the Bridgewater Hotel, only to find it is also closed - it's very sad. So we went back to the boat to watch the Champions League final - very poor reception (which is one reason we wanted a pub) and to top it all Man Utd lost Oh well, tomorrows another day (Wife's comment - it may not be if you carry on moaning).
