  1. I'm not really surprised, I know that because of their reputation and 'quality' I had to book 18 months in advance. I'm sure it'll all go well for you, Langley Mill have a strong following so they must be doing "summat right"
  2. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 10 posts to view.
  3. And for C&RTs 'joint venture property' expenditure they have noted ................. Losses of £7.0m (2021/22: £nil) have been experienced in the joint venture interests. Not 'book values', but actual expenditure against income.
  4. Its always worth reading beyond the headlines - the information is in the public domain. Yes they had a Property Portfolio income of £55 million, but unfortunately they made a whopping loss on this property portfolio The property portfolio produced valuation losses of £61.8m (2021/22: gains of £40.2m) which, combined with £2.8m (2021/22: £5.7m) of realised gains on disposals, produced a capital reduction of 8.1% for the year. Our non-property portfolio of investments produced revaluation losses before fees of £3.0m (2021/22: gains of £37.7m).
  5. The discussion is (was) not about the need to increase the licence fees but the fact that C&RT lied about their methods, and that appears to be beyond question. One can disagree with C&RTs management practices but agree they need more income. THERE IS NO DOUBT from anyone that the canals cannot continue with the income that C&RT currently have, apart from an assortment of smaller income streams C&RT have 3 main sources of income : DEFRA Grant Boat Licences and Moorings Utilities. The Defra Grant is known and despite pleading on bended knees and begging letters the decision has been made regarding the grant level for the next few years. Utilities - C&RT have already increased the charges made to utility companies for the use of the towpath, and, have increased the charges to companies extracting water and / or the use of canals for surface water drainage etc. Boat licences have been under-priced for many years and have lost all relation to the benefits they actually offer, 'tinkering around the edges' adding 5% here, 10% there over an extended period, which, after inflation will have absolutely no effect on the actual buying power of C&RTs income. C&RT have limited options but basically they can either save costs or increase income (or do both) Saving costs can only be achieved by 'headcount', or closure of 'expensive to maintain, little used canals' (which they have the legal right to do under the Waterways Act) The DEFRA grant is fixed, so Income can only come from either a totally new source, or much higher, realistic, fees where they are charged, and that includes (maybe 100% immediate) increase in boat licences, Yes - some boaters will be forced off the canals (which will result in less wear and tear on the infrastructure) but I'd bet that the vast majority will pay up and accept that as the better option. The answer to the problem is out there, it is unpalatable for some, but it can be done.
  6. That is exactly the scenario outlined in the documents. V1 issued to the board members. V2 is V1 with 4 pages concerning the boaters preferences for licence increases removed & was issued and made public by C&RT Twice in FOI requests C&RT management denied that they had ever had/seen V1 and request that the applicant should prove there was a V1. The copy of V1, as provided to the board members, was copied and provided to C&RT. No I have not seen anything. But, this is what is explained in the various documents (FOI requests and answers) on the What do they know webpage.
  7. But when C&RT (at the highest level) denied twice that they had been issued with a previous version, and, not only was it proven that they had been, but when they still denied it, a copy was shown. (C&RT has had a whistleblower for some years). That is (at the very least) telling lies, and supressing the truth.
  8. Did you read the link and the attachments of the two issues/versions ? But, as was attached to the link, there were 4 pages redacted from the issue that was given to Board members and that issued by C&RT to 'the public'
  9. I don't know if Trevithics do sand-blasting and 2-pack epoxy - but if you decide to go for bitumin, they are certainly equipped tp do that.
  10. Which looks (from your photo) to be exactly the situation using the extended tiller arm.
  11. Having asked for assistance in a specific location why is there the urge to suggest a solution 100 miles and 80 locks (7 days 6 hours cruising) from the requested location ?
  12. Surely, they have a home - they are just "of no fixed abode"? In law, no fixed abode or without fixed abode is not having a fixed geographical location as a residence, commonly referred to as no fixed address. This is applicable to several groups: 1) People who have a home, but which is not always in the same place: 2) Those whose occupation requires them to live permanently on boats, ships or movable oil platforms, or to travel constantly (as showmen, for example). Nomadic peoples (e.g. Indigenous Norwegian Travellers and Romanichal) and traveller groups (e.g. Irish Travellers, Scottish Gypsy and Traveller groups, New Age travellers, Norwegian and Swedish Travellers). 3) Individuals who adopt a mobile lifestyle, living in narrowboats, recreational vehicles or the like. An alternative could be Itinerant : (Merriam Webster Dictionary definition) itinerant adjective itin·er·ant ī-ˈti-nə-rənt : traveling from place to place, especially covering a circuit Is a slug just a snail without a home ?
  13. You may find it is too late to book for this year as good yards tend tp be booked up a year in advance. If you can get in, there is nowhere better than .................. Trevethick’s Boatyard Canal Wharf Gregory St Old Lenton, Nottingham NG7 2NP The family have been building and repairing boats on the Nottingham Canal since 1908 We had our bottom done there. You can stay on board and there is electric hook up, water and a toilet. It took 7 days to do it properly - in on a Friday as the previous one comes out.
  14. Not 'new information' but of interest ...................
  15. Move forward a couple of months and the ban on wood burning stoves (in new builds) is announced in Scotland: The Scottish National Party has been accused of launching an attack on rural Scotland following a ban on wood-burning stoves in new homes. Housebuilders cannot install "polluting heating systems, which include log burners, following the introduction of new regulations to tackle climate change. Alasdair MacMillan, who runs an Argyll-based architecture and planning company, described the changes as "seismic". Meanwhile Douglas Lumsden, an energy spokesman for the Scottish Tories, said: "It is vital that Scotland achieves net zero and cut emissions - but banning heating systems that people rely on is not the right way to go about it. "Many people living in rural, off-grid areas rely on wood-burning stoves to heat their houses, especially in emergencies. This ban would leave them without any way to heat their homes. "Yet again, the SNP-Green Government are showing their contempt for rural Scotland, ploughing ahead with rash ideas without considering the significant impact on individuals and their lives." The move, which came into force at the start of this month, has raised concerns among pensioners and remote Highland communities relying on off-grid forms of heating. The rest of the article : SNP quietly bans popular item in green crackdown with pensioners in firing line (msn.com) My Son (up in the highlands) actually burns peat, it seems every crofter has a 'right' to dig and burn peat) no doubt this will be banned in any new builds.

  17. Actually meeting the requirements listed does not seem to be an actual requirement.
  18. The insurance generally says (something to the effect) "all requirements laid down by the navigation authority must be complied with" No navigation authority so no requirements on the lumpy stuff ! Edit to add : The 'small print' from Craft Insure. You agree that : The boat will be ashore or afloat on inland non-tidal waters and interconnecting tidal waterways of the UK, the Broads and the Thames not to seaward of the Thames Barrier. The boat will be used for private and pleasure purposes only. The boat is of fibre glass, aluminium or steel construction. The boat has a current Boat Safety Certificate (and/or a certificate of conformity from the manufacturer if the boat is less than 4 years old). The boat's overall length does not exceed 80ft. A Canal & River Trust or Environment Agency Licence, or the equivalent licence from the local Navigation Authority, will be maintained in force once the boat is in commission and afloat. If the boat is over 30 years old, you possess a full out of the water condition survey of the boat, carried out within the last 5 years by a qualified yacht surveyor, and all recommendations have been complied with (or a survey carried out within the past 7 years if the boat is already insured by you with Craftinsure) The boat is not more than 50 years old now. Neither I nor any co-owner have any convictions or pending convictions The boat has not been modified in a way that affects its' seaworthiness I have no health issues that affect my ability to operate the boat The boat is not a static houseboat
  19. I think he does - they will be away from the boat "working 12-13 hours per day" So I’m not thinking it will we are in a nice place just keep seeing posts on fb groups about stolen boats so my misses gets worried as we both work full time so we are away 12-13 hours a day.
  20. Sorta like A to B to A to B ............ (the waterpoint and back)
  21. From what he has previously said I doubt that they are working from/on the boat ................ So I’m not thinking it will we are in a nice place just keep seeing posts on fb groups about stolen boats so my misses gets worried as we both work full time so we are away 12-13 hours a day. Unless he has a home mooring, I'd suggest that in addition to power generation and water suppy his problem may be moving suficiently to retain his licence.
  22. In which case - yes - it has expired. C&RT are owners of the BSS scheme and there boat records are linked to the BSS system. Edit to add : My BSS was last done in April 2019 and the last two numbers ( /19) are the year it was done, so mine has also expired. (But I don't need to renew it now)
