  1. Could you be more explicit please,as to what it is you would like advice on>? I am sure you would get a better response if you asked direct questions,Good luck in your search.
  2. I suppose you could also use cat litter
  3. Despite the shortfall of narrowboats at Excel last year, and even less the year before, the numbers are now obviously increasing,..is anyone going this coming new year,(I seem to always find a reason to go,like a good day out,see if anything new on the scene, meet up with fellow comrades of the waterways, etc etc)and any comments about its popularity increase?

  5. www.toolstation.com www.firstlightdirect.com These deal with 12volt lamps and bulbs.Got all my requirements from them.Hope it helps.
  6. Grren and cream is good.Mine is!
  7. Any one any views on the water lubricated stern tubes?I have been informed that ok for sea going vessels where water is reasonably clean, but not ideal for the dirty water of the canals and rivers used by narrowboats and the sim. They dont last long, unlike the conventional greased ?
  8. Like the wife ,for example ?
  9. VHS players are the bizz when it comes to recording programmes, after all now a days with the price of dvd recorders costing large sums,I believe that the VHS format has got to be a deffinate cheap option.Combination players are even better, having the best of both worlds,I bought a dvd player for my boat from tesco's for 19 quid, cant moan at that, and the video player recorders, dont cost a heap more.
  10. Brought tears to my eyes,,hey you gotta laugh, despite it all you made it.You really should be on the stage!

  12. Thank you bottle,I will let this site know of the progress of thew court hearing, and any further updates as they arise.Anyone wishing for a copy of the boat survey are welcome to it,once i have it.
  13. The builder of my boat was given the opportunity to rectify the faults, immediately I had one, of many. The first being that the spray foam had sunk, and was no more than a millimetre thick in most places. They did come out to the boats hard standing site and redo the spray foaming,However once I had the boat launched, and filled with diesel, and run the engine, more serious faults came to light, and on informing the builders was informed by them it was not their responsibility, after which I took proffessional advice. To conclude this ,for questions asked here, and that I have as of yet not answered, the following may answer most. The boat had leaks at the following pointers. 1) Engine feed and return, and auxilary feed pipes into integral tank 2) Welds to integral tank sides 3) Skin tank at both ends and front 4) Base plate to side at stern 5) Stern tube weeping + Also gas locker at bow end,the floor breather holes are 4" above the level of floor + The roof plates, welded only on inside, not outside, + Stainless Steel water tank at bow end has no movement brackets fitted + Doors at stern do not close correctly, welded to close to bulkhead + Roof drains cut out in wrong place, water does not drain away, just sits in its own pool This may seem petty,to some of you out there, but I wanted to outline some of the faults I am having to deal with
  14. I have had to get a full boat survey done because I needed an expert surveyors report to back me up in a court of law.I certainly dont believe a new boat owner should have to have a boat survey done,it is after all the boat builder who claims to be profficient in his job! Finally,as many on here claim I am responsible for getting a faulty boat, because I didnt check its build, and therefore contributed to the end reults, however as the problems I have had with this boat have only come to light when the boat was put in the water, and filled up with diesel,.their statements are somewhat meaningless.
  15. Firstly in response to your comments,I was unable to assess any faults until the boat was put in the water, which was 3 months after taking delivery,as it was fitted out on dry land.As regards the shell being thoroughly inspected,....by whome I ask,(I did get a certificate of compliance, which I must state at this time isnt worth the paper its written on)Surely inspection is in the hands and responsibility of the builders,as it is I have now had to have a full boat survey done at a cost of £500 to get the 'expert advice documentation'so that I can take these negligent so called boat builders to court.I dont expect nor want sympathy, just support to do something about the rogue traders who make a mockery of the likes of me.No one wants to complain nor print the names of these companies in fear of being sued, whats a matter with all of them, the only way is name and shame,or more people will throwing their money away to the continued increase of new boat building companies that seem to be springing up like a bad virus. The website of >>that builder<<,is a farce. They claim that the spine or keelson is fitted to every boat they build....hahahaha,they dont,in fact ,its only on special orders, secondly they do not use auto weld systems that run on a track, all bull,as when I enquired about their web site they told be they didnt even know where the rails were.this being because the present owners bought the companies name from the original owners, who probably were responsible for the web site.in fact I know that as a fact.Something else for me to mention in court in january. The problem here is not just me,they have been prosecuted before for poor workmanship,of course I didnt know that when I put my order in,and as regards getting it fixed, well they didnt want to know, and disclaimed any responsibility .If you saw my boats fabrication i doubt if your comments would of been written. Glad you like the web site, fascinating is a new one, however as I have to live with the boats faults, some of which will have to be rectified by another builders skills,I am persevering with getting it right, with a lot of investment into it,I certainly wont be pulling out,I plan on cruising next year for a couple of months, and 90% of the problems will one way or another be resolved to a safe and acceptable standard. The website is not intended as a gripe about the rogue builders of my boat, that I have managed to do that by passing the information around the boaters I meet every day.And bad news seems to travel fast !
  16. My main concern over my obvious anger is simply that. That no one goes through what I have.Thank you for your support.I will be posting the most sensitive contents of the report as soon as I get it,without mentioning names,as it will only get removed, pity really,as their name is about to get plastered over the tabloids !
  17. Today the surveyor came and has done a full boat survey, this because my boat built by ***** BOATS was a complete sham,.it leaks, its bent, its twisted and its a nightmare, and with the lack of any real legislation for boat builders, allowing any old tom dick or mr rip off to go and build boats.its about time something is done and not just talked about,so I am doing something now. Watch this space. Anyone interested here to join forces with me?,please get in touch,a court case is about to blow up in the face of one Boat builder,(or he proffesses to be one,I can confirm he is not)and i will make such a noise about it that anyone who is suffering at the hands of the few who mess it for the majority so called boat builders, will want to speak up.its time to get noticed,I cant do it on my own,it needs to be lobbied in parliament, noise always gets attention, although swinging about on St Pauls cathedral dressed in a batman suit is as of yet not intended, perhaps someone could advice me on a suitable attention seeking prank.I will do whatever it takes.
  18. hello,You dont need to treat it first, just put your 'cork' cement on and leave to dry as normal.( I assume you are putting a backing on the fireboard,as it is somewhat brittle?)
  19. Bought a new boat from ***** BOATS serious problems with build during ,and especially afterwards.with refusals to accept reponsibilties for poor quality welding amongst a list of 28 faults. My reccomendations are find people with newish boats who are happy with the results, and deffinately visit as many builders as you can. get the impression that there a lot of new companies springing up because there are no regulations regarding this industry that protect the consumers. edited to remove builders name
  20. I dont mind being a pratt if it helps me navigate,at least Idont have to tell anyone, everyone will be able to see with my 28" monitor sitting on the roof. Nicholsons blew away whilst trying to read it,hopefully a 28" monitor wont i can smell a Guiness at 300 yards,no problem there! Plenty of time to moor up. The wonders of technology have an answer for every question, but winding holes, now thats a tuffy.
  21. wrong forum Who needs a fridge at this time of the year,I find a bucket with 8 cans of guiness in, hanging over the stern, ideal, hopefully now, no one will learn of this inconspicuos hiding place! (I will now be changing it to the bow, shhhh, dont tell.)
  22. Can anyone tell me if I can get a programme to go into my sat nav system, for the inland waterways? Thank you in anticipation.
  23. Yes,slaves are difficult to come by!
  24. No boat?,have you ever had a boat, perhaps if you had a boat you might have more clout here?,cant see the direction your aiming at,what do you do in your spare time,What made you come to our forum anyway,
  25. A funny thing happened to me on the way to my new moorings yesterday.Whilst waiting for my friend to shut the lock gates on the way to Shardlow marina, and obvoiusly struggling with the lock gate,I secured the boat in the lock and climbed the ladder to assist the jammed gate, after a few moments of puffing and getting no where we realised it was electric!. A lesson learnt,of many, and a key purchased.
