THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH May 17
THE BATCHWORTH BOAT RALLY, RICKMANSWORTH

This rally was started in 2024 when at very short notice the huge Rickmansworth Festival was cancelled. The Waterspace team decided to keep the boat gathering but as a much smaller event. With some enthusiastic parters it was a huge success in 2024.

So Next year as an appropriate "Theme" for the times we are Calling all GUCCCo, FMC, Severn & Canal boats.particularly those built in 1935 as next year the Batchworth Boat Rally would like to see them all gathering at Batchworth in Rickmansworth to celebrate their 90 years.
The rally will take place on 17/18th May, two weeks after the cavalcade at Little Venice.
Please put the date in your calendar for next year and drop us an email then we will make sure to include you on the mailing list when bookings open in January.

Running a Small/Backup Generator
Running a Small/Backup Generator

Tony Brooks replied to Halkyon's topic in Boat Equipment

Be aware that the 12V output may not be regulated, it certainly is not on the Hondas. This means that as lead acid batteries charge the current drops and the voltage rises. If left on for a period it can easily go high enough to wreck the batteries. The 12V output is likely to limited in output current as well. No problem if you always charge via the inverter and LFPs will hold the voltage down until the BMS shuts the charge off.

Hmm not really sure what the relevance of your comments is then. Indeed I would say you could be misleading the op and I strongly advise the OP to check what he's got

To be fair. Mine isn’t this exact one. Mine is from screwfix but looks exactly the same.

I based what I wrote on this datasheet. https://electricalcomponentsdirect.co.uk/circuit-breakers/mini-circuit-breaker.htm No idea on the RCD, on account of not knowing any Chinese.

I'm not sure that's correct. It looks to me as though the 'big one' is simply a 25A rated RCD dual pole. It's hard to tell with it being a very cheap and nasty Chinese one, but thats what it looks like to me. Then there are 2 mcbs, 6 and 10A. Almost certainly single pole. That would be in line with it being a campervan caravan thing. Really need to see inside it to see how it's wired. If the inverter is wired straight into the RCD, which would sort of make sense, then it could be as simple as connecting the immersion to the 6A mcb and depending on the heater power rating that one to the 10A (ok for a 2kw heater) I think based on this thread you should consider getting someone in to look at it for you. Don't just get any old house sparky though, as they will not understand boat electric...

Yes you will have to set a charge limit in your inverter charger to stop the generator from tripping. On my victron there were dip switches inside it where you could adjust the charge current...your inverter charger may have a similar arrangement. In theory 45 amps is possible but remember there are efficiency losses and your generator might not be able to provide 650w continously...only peak. 500w might be it's actual limit so worth checking. I'd imagine around 30 amp will be possible. Is it a modern pure sine wave generator?
