You're right that there's nothing inherently new about having a diesel engine, an alternator and a battery bank. But their realisation of this compared to a normal 12V boat system is a bit like the Dreamliner compared to a DC3 -- you can fly in either, but one is a lot faster, more comfortable and more efficient than the other.

As well as investing some proper development budget into the system to get it right, they should also get some brownie points for finally building in proper battery management and monitoring and lifetime optimisation, as well as robust fault protection -- everyone's been complaining for years about these problems (Smartgauges, current monitors, charge equalization, how to not kill batteries...) but there's not been much done about it.
