It just needs "burping", a simple squeeze til a little water is seen to release any air on fitting or going back in the water and then a tiny bit of grease every 200 hours or annually. I'm sure there's a reason why every Narrowboat builder doesn't use this set up, but I'm grateful mine did! My Volvo one was replaced at 7 years/4230 hours after it started to leak too much. we are now at 11 years/5963 hours. I find there is a tendency to drip during the winter months and put this down to the rubber getting hard due to cold, however it takes a lot of days of to leak enough to bring on the bilge pump. I regreased it a week ago when doing an oil change on the engine and vacuumed out the bilge and it has been dry since.
