PRM Gearbox clunk and stuck in gear

Featured Posts

Hi all. Today I have taken my narrowboat out for the first time in a year. I'm currently moored on the canal and am stranded.

Today when on the water there was some loud clunks when shifting into gear. The boat then stuck in gear and I ended up crashing into a lock. Traumatic experience...

I have just discovered I have no oil in the PRM 120D2 gearbox.

Can anyone advise my next step to fixing this issue please? Is it as simple as adding more oil?

Many thanks,

Jason

It will be the cone clutch stuck. You can try filling it with oil (ATF, not engine oil) and trying it when it has cooled down. I suspect you won't get it out of gear though

Last one I bought I got cheap because it was stuck in gear

Richard is probably correct but as a long shot make sure the prop is clear. If the clunks were you picking something up on the prop and if it has jammed the shaft so it is still under torsion its just about possible that might jam it in gear - a very long shot depending upon the exact design of the mechanism.
