Carriage of Grain by water

Tam & Di

Featured Posts

Di's book on feeding London with grain carried by water is finally out in the wide world: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Barges-Bread-Canals-Grain-Baking/dp/1909248517 and she'd like to thank those who contributed to the thread for their interest and some useful pointers to reference.

I guess that's a sneaky ad, but the likelihood of sales in double figures a fairly slight, so it's not exactly a big business thing

;)

That would have been an interesting trip, but possibly a bit longer than the twelve hours from Brentford to Boxmoor and ten hours back empty. We did see an early blurb by the publisher which said Liverpool and we thought she'd corrected it. I just had a look at Prospect Books' site too and I see that says we carried it from the London docks, so at least the route is more plausible even if it did come up the Thames in lighters.

Prospect Books specialises in cookery, food history and the ethnology of food, and has just changed hands; the previous owner had canal interests and would have known better. Hopefully Di's text doesn't include such howlers.
