Bancroft Basin on the Stratford

Trying to work out our summer holiday schedule for mid to end of July. Cowroast to Stratford and return.

Can anyone advise are there visitor moorings at Bancroft Basin in Stratford or close to there, and how long can you stay?

Does it get very busy - or should we plan to stop elsewhere instead?

Thanks for your help.

We were in Bancroft Basin last year. Then you could stay for 48 hours. The pontoon moorings are excellent. If you are going onto the Avon you can stay for 48 hours there as well. This is what we did, so we had 4 days in Stratford.

Excellent for the Theatre as well.

We moored in the basin a few years ago and found it excellent with quite a few spaces even in the height of summer.

A handy little tip if you are going shopping for anything more than you can carry is to try Somerfields as they delivered our groceries (mainly beer and wine) direct to the pontoon. All we neede was a mobile phone number and everything was hunky dory. The stuff that needed chilled was done so and the frozen food was kept frozen till it was delivered.

If you do lock down to the Avon, be prepared for up to 150 - 200 gongoozlers lining the lock. You could always pass the hat round for a collection to help pay your way.....lol

The Boddingtons pub was not particularly great for food but there was a good pub back up the canal just outside the basin. Besides, there are plenty of eateries in Stratford anyway.

If it gets really too hot for you, there is a leisure centre with an indoor swimming pool nearby.

Enjoy.

P.S. My avatar is JS in Bancrft Basin.
