Hi,

I need to move my boat from Reading to Yorkshire in the next month. Can anyone reccommend a transport company with a low loader suitable for a 42ft narrowboat. I have access to cranes at both ends.

Thanks

Richard

We had "Pleiades" moved recently by AB Tuckey, (link) who are based in Long Itchington near Leamington. Professional, skilful and freindly service, and cheaper than some other quotes we had.

Yeah, I'd recommend Tuckeys too. They took a mate's boat to France and were good enough to allow the elderly dog to ride in the cab. They also seem to be in the middle of your journey and you are very likely to have to pay for a round trip no matter where the truck comes from. However, just one thing you might consider, when I transported my bare shell (45ft) before I knew of Tuckey, I used a local transport company with a flat articulated truck, thinking that a 5ft overhang would not matter, but they brought a trombone trailer anyway. (they said there was too much paperwork with a five foor overhang) You might get away with yours at only two foot. A forty two boat fully fitted with probably weigh around 11-12 tonnes so would be well within the capacity of a 38t rated truck.

"move my boat from Reading to Yorkshire"

My advice - dont do it! - take some time off work and bring her up by water, even if you have to do it in stages. I bought my boat in Anderton and brought it down to London myself - one of the best journeys I ever made!
