Expansion Tank!?

Hmm - the water in bathroom was just coming out brown (from cold tap) and flow was spluttery. Then I heard the pump whirring continuously (quieter than normal). Have cut pump off for now but could this be as simple as my water tank has run dry?

All pressurised water systems should have a non-return valve, either in the pump or separately.

There, fixed that for you by substituting should for will, "will" certainly can not be counted on

I am hopeful the tank was just empty as it was noticeably echoey when I unscrewed the cap... It's filling as I type. I think I will let it overfill, reconnect the pump and open up some taps to see if anything needs flushing out (air, crud etc etc)

Hurrah - tank full (took hour and a half) and pump is now working as I though it should... Presumably it was just working too hard with a nearly empty tank. Thanks all...
