Hi There

I need to do some fibreglass repairs to my grp boat and I'm wondering if its possible to use a grip roofing system on it?, and if I can go over the existing paint if I key it up?

Have no idea what a grip roofing system is but if you can post some pics or describe the damage we might have some advice.

. I think he means grp roofing system as fibre glass seems to be have replaced felt in the last ten years for flat roof,s I think it is pretty much the same as that used on boats just a lot cheaper than buying it from the chandlers,

a major difference is that modern GRP systems (like you would buy from WEST or from your chandlers) use epoxy resin, whilst older systems and, no doubt, roofing systems, use much cheaper polyester resin.

you could go over your existing paint as long as you realise that you will need a full GRP multi-lamination because you are ignoring the integrity and strength added by the existing GRP. However if you abrade back to the first layer of glass you can effectively add to what is existing.

suggest you google for GRP boat repairs - WEST have good publications for this work.

Check out Google to get glass mat resin and catylist, when I needed some the cheapest came from Cornwall, chandlers were horrendously expensive.

As has been said abraid back and work wet on wet. Finish of with a top coat of gel coat.
