jeannette smith harrison
William Gardner a Boatman married Maria Monk on 8th Dec 1915, both list fathers occupation as boatman on their wedding cert. During the first World War William served in the Royal Marine Light Infantry There is also a lot of info on google on the Gardner family. Sadly one of their connection's to myself & John Boswell passed on last week. After 5 postings you will be able to sent me a private message I have many parish records & info that I will share if you are still interested in the Gardner's & their connections to other Canal boat family's Edited July 22, 2015 by jeannette smith harrison
frangar
Just to say I'm reporting my post here so a mod can move the topic to either history or general boating so more people see it. Oh welcome to the forum! and I'm afraid my " Doris" isn't sadly an old working boat....good luck with your search! Cheers Gareth Edited to add.... Blimey that's a quick move!....thank you. pete harrison
Does anyone have any information of my canal boat family the Gardners, I think their boats were name Kelly and Doris I think the boats KELLY and DORIS were owned by Samuel Barlow Coal Company Ltd., Birmingham. KELLY was a motor acquired by Samuel Barlow Coal Company Ltd. in 1940 and was formally David Hambridge's FAIR TRADER. The butty DORIS was acquired by Samuel Barlow Coal Company Ltd. in 1941, with their records stating that it was formally the Moira Colliery Company's PROSPERITY - but I can find no evidence to link this boat with the Moira Colliery Company.
