If it's the uxter plate...isn't it true that it is not a part of the boat which needs to be water proof, as it's just something that's added onto the outside? In that case, lots of tacks would achieve the result. Just acting as devils advocate...and looking at the pic.

sorry..not sure of the terminology. Let's go back to the pic. It shows a piece of metal, tacked onto the outside of the baseplate..in other words, it has no waterproofing requirement..does it....or do I have it wrong, and that IS the baseplate...in which case those tacks dont look like they'll stop water...
