Removing the VP from '"View new content"

Interpretation is open to misunderstandings. tis a shame methinks to block out all of VP in response to certain peoples negative mud slinging but guess down to freedom of choice. Of course it maybe that alcohol sometimes causes all of us who have the odd one or two to post with less tact and to misconstru others posts.

But you're not blocking it out - its quite possible to occasionally go into the VP sub-forum and see what the recent threads in there are. Its only "new content" they won't appear in. Think of it as "New content (with relevance to boating/canals)".

Exactly.

The thing is, in recent weeks the majority of new posts in the pub have been in the political squabbly threads, not the nice frivolous threads. So they get undue prominence in the 'View New Content" page, nor are they anything to to with boating.

There are plenty of non boating topics featured on this forum and appearing in the new contents page. Three of these are kept going by about the same three posters everyday. They fall into the frivolous bracket. Should someone kick up a stink about that. Why can't you simply ignore threads that get your bile going.

You have as much opportunity as everyone else has to start a thread. Start some frivolous ones in the VP. I don't think the answer is to contrive a personal preference. Unless you use the methods open to everyone. Ignore or participate.

????

He IS ignoring threads you mentioned - automatically, by using a feature of the forum software. That the feature is imperfect, and some irrelevant threads still slip though, is a different issue (that of posting in the wrong forum) - but is easily manageable because the burden of rubbish threads is much reduced.

What is found to be rubbish is a pretty subjective test. You may find people agree with you on what is rubbish...

...or not.
