Alastair
I met a chap the other day, who owns land adjacent (his words) to the canal and river in Ripon. He was thinking of developing it, building a marina. Now, I know that BW read this forum, and there may be other people who would have an interest. What should he do next? I can pass info and contact numbers on to him.

Paul Evans
It's not just BW he has to contend with. They won't agree a connection to the canal without a slice of the takings but the local planning authority will have something to say about it as well. The company that owns the marina I moor in own a substantial slice of land next to it and want to expand but the planning authority has stamped its foot. Can't say I'm sorry because the marina is currently quite isolated and out of the way. An extension mighty make it attractive to the more light fingered members of the community.
