Whixall Moss - Why can't I moor in England?

At Whixall Moss on the Langollen Canal there is a mile long straight which is half in England and half in Wales. New signs have appeared on the English side of the border forbidding mooring. Does anyone know why? I don't really think anyone would want to moor there and I cannot remember ever seeing a boat there. Very strange!

Maybe because parts of Whixhall Moss are SSSI's?

I thought they had always banned mooring along that stretch because of the SSSI.

Is that the bit where the canal is actually higher than the surrounding land (which has sunk due to peat extraction) and the canal is only retained by piling?
